Cooking a test

What happens to you when you do a blood test while you're cooking? Specifically, say, when you're cooking up a storm for several people, there's a fair few ingredients, you're taking the odd sip of wine, and something goes wrong - like the lid gets jammed on the pressure-cooker, you're not sure whether you're low or high, and you're spinning 10 plates.

I cook a few dinner parties and regularly get hypos lol !! Stress, brain activity it's a good drainer on the blood glucose levels, I probably don't cook as many now as I used to but now I do alot beforehand so I can relax a bit more and spend time with people

Just wondering how others combine testing with a busy situation?
On the whole, testing needs a bit of calm :)
@Juicyj, like you, I like to do a lot of prep before the last stages of cooking, and these days, I often cook stuff from scratch but which is really easy, as promoted by @Brunneria on her thread.
If I test and inject before the cooking, that's too early and I might go hypo, if I test and inject while cooking, I might forget the meter in order to take the pan off the heat or let the cat out, and waste the test strip. Quite hazardous really. :)
 
Guess it's just a question of timing @lizdeluz but we all slip-up from time to time.

I hate it when you test and your finger won't stop bleeding and your conscious of getting blood all over the food, thank goodness for plasters :)
 
I always keep my testing kit on the work surface and will test when I get a spare minute then a quick shot of insulin before sitting down to eat - I have a small kitchen so only enough room for me so i'm not too bothered about anyone coming in and they all know i'm a type 1 so doesn't make any difference. Depends who you're cooking for, what your doing and if you get a spare minute to test ! ;)

Yes, IF we get a spare minute to test. I'm going to compile a list of recipes where there is a spare minute to test! :D
 
To be fair I also like a glass of red wine when I cook - so sometimes it's a case of remembering to test then ! I always find I can make time for myself as long as my kit is visible then I will test, it's a case of being conscientious and remembering to be a little bit selfish - otherwise if I hypo (which i've been known to do !!) then everyone has to wait :wacky:
