I have had pneumonia three times, possibly linked to my recently diagnosed asthma which, looking back, I have probably always had. I also used to have bronchitis every couple of years.

I used to sit up to a dining table, with a cushion on the chair for comfort. I put a pillow or two on the table, a blanket round my shoulders, and leant forward with my head on the pillows to sleep. Leaning forward helps breathing. It was the only way I could get some sleep.

Those fancy blowup airplanes cushions with a hole for your face would work maybe too?

Maybe, I guess we will find out one way way or another.

I'm no expert in epidemiology @bulkbiker , but I'm thinking a year to 18 months for a vaccine, so that's the length of time that the most vulnerable members of the community need to be protected for (if they don't pass away in the meantime) , and then it needs to be rolled out with a vaccination program soooooo?

There has never been a successful vaccine for the common cold (another corona virus) why should there be one for COVID 19?

I'm not even sure what the current "tests" are actually testing for either or how accurate they are.

COVID19 has still killed fewer people globally in 4 months than die every single day.

Not being able to eat as many chocolate digestives as I used to.

I always understood that the biggest issue with the common cold is that it is continuously mutating and therefore making vaccines unviable. Also the illness doesn't often lead to death (as far as I am aware) and certainly not of people in mid-life, so there's less imperative to spend millions developing a vaccine when you can make millions selling powdered lemon flavoured paracetamol.

Have I missed part of a conversation? i cant work out where information about the common cold is related to coronavirus.

The worry now seems to be the virus may become endemic and become a "seasonal" illness, returning year on year, as the flu does.

Oh dear

13,000 Shielding letters sent to wrong addresses in Wales
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-politics-52283236

Earlier, a Welsh Government spokeswoman said: "Due to a processing error within the NHS Wales Informatics Service (NWIS), some shielding letters were posted to a previous address, where the intended recipient had recently moved.

"All letters have since been reissued to the correct addresses.

"We provided all local authorities with the correct details from the start of this process, and they have been directly contacting each person involved over the past two weeks."

She added: "We fully understand the concern this would have caused people and sincerely apologise for the mistake."

Too many "L"'s in the place names?

Too rushed implementation, I should think.
Everyone was screaming ‘where’s my letter?’ on one hand, and then ‘how dare they use my contact details without my permission’ on the other hand. Along with various agencies desperately trying to comply with the data protection laws...

I’m actually quite surprised this is the first story of its kind I have come across.

They will have to get their money on the, pig in a poke, they bought that doesn't work, first?
PHE probably did not pay anything out on the Chinese scam so nothing to get back.

If they don’t get their order in to Abbott quickly the kit will just go to Germany, Spain, Norway first like the Libre 2.

But going by past experience they probably will just get a few tests and play around with them for some months to see if they can approve them.

These sort of numbers from Abbott do place into perspective the PHE 100,000 tests by the end of the month - and those were not the “game changer” antibody tests either.

“Antibody tests to expand testing and help healthcare workers

While molecular testing detects whether someone has the virus, antibody tests determine if someone was previously infected.

Abbott's SARS-CoV-2 IgG test identifies the IgG antibody, which is a protein that the body produces in the late stages of infection and may remain for up to months and possibly years after a person has recovered. Abbott's IgG antibody test will initially be available on its ARCHITECT® i1000SR and i2000SR laboratory instruments*.

More than 2,000 of these instruments are in use in U.S. laboratories. These instruments can run up to 100-200 tests per hour.

This breathing technique may help coronavirus patients feel better
The idea is to get the lower part of a person’s lungs to expand so that any mucus that’s collecting there can be dislodged and coughed out.

A breathing technique said to help people with COVID-19 symptoms is getting praise from “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling and CNN broadcaster Chris Cuomo.

A British doctor — identified by The Times as Dr. Sarfaraz Munshi from Queen’s Hospital in London — demonstrated the exercise in a YouTube video that's received almost 2 million views since Friday.

In it, he urged patients to begin practicing the technique right at the start of their coronavirus infection or even before any symptoms began.

Well just coming on from that @Winnie53
And pretty sure similar happened here in some form.. The new York times on just why it all went so wrong, is a worthy read.

Stay well
Stay safe

When I read that article on Saturday, it filled in additional details that I'd not read elsewhere. It's a good read. Thanks jjraak.

While I continue to be interested in how the Trump administration is functioning and serving us, I'm to the point where I don't care what the president says anymore. He's a pathological liar for starters. Ignoring him has been the best "medicine" for me. Stress levels are coming down and normalizing. I'm slowly coming to understand and accept our "new normal". Being informed on COVID-19 has also greatly helped, thanks in part to you all here.
