I'm not seeing the consultant again till early next year but I'm hoping to speak to them sooner and see what this result means going foward and if I'll have another cpeptide test!Far as I know, you can have a honeymoon period, insulin is produced but not regularly, I wonder if they would do another cpep?
Edit to say I’ve read on here that cpep can be unreliable, as it was the only test used to diagnose me, I am not sure 100% what type am I, daft huh. (I’m treated as T1 by consultant and don’t seem to be insulin resistant so I’m going with that)
another edit, after reading someone here discovering they are not T1 after 10 years, who knows what any of us are, seems to me that the treatment is the same, diet until that don’t work, tablets until that don’t work, insulin. (Low carbing seems the way forward regardless, personal opinion)
Thank you I'll be checking to see what they have me down as! I'm waiting for the libre but I know the nurse said before this test would determine whether they went down the type 1 or type 2 on insulin route so I'm not sure what will happen with that now thinking about it I'm on a basal bolus and only 21 so I'm assuming they'll pop me down as type 1 but god knows!I am intrigued by the need for the tests when your consultant was confident that you are Type 1.
As @Fenn said, if you have Type 1 as an adult, your body can take some time to kill off all your beta cells producing insulin, As my injected insulin dose continued to rise for 8 years after I was first diagnosed, I suspect I was still producing a low level of insulin until that point.
If the nurse says you are producing less insulin than normal and you still need insulin, I think the important thing is to ensure you are recorded as having Type 1 (sadly, some treatment options are not available to people with type 2) and focus on understanding how your insulin works for you and making the most of it.
Mine was urine too! I'm hoping they'll continue to treat as type 1 so I can get the libre etc sorted fingers crossed. Seems there's quite a lot of us that fall through the cracks of straight diagnosis! Do you have antibodies? XxHi. I'm in a similar position with a C-Peptide similar to yours. Was yours a urine test or a blood plasma test? My last C-Peptide was a urine one and I don't really trust it as I had a blood one done a few years back privately and it showed me nearer to the T1 level. Fortunately my consultant is treating me as a T1 and has put my Libre 2 on prescription. My blood sugar control is difficult and I'm slim on a low'ish carb regime so no different from a childhood T1.
No. My GAD test was negative. I believe my beta cell loss at age 50 was due to a virus as I had an unexplained high white cell count shortly before diabetes diagnosis.Mine was urine too! I'm hoping they'll continue to treat as type 1 so I can get the libre etc sorted fingers crossed. Seems there's quite a lot of us that fall through the cracks of straight diagnosis! Do you have antibodies? Xx
Ughh so after being told my the consultant he was confident I'm type 1 and started on insulin I've had my cpeptide results back today and they're 0.49 the nurse said that means I'm producing less than normal but not as little as they'd expect with type 1 but shows I need to stay on insulin. Im just feeling so frustrated about not having a straight diagnosis and wondered if anyone else had similar cpeptide results?
