Hi guys
I wanted to have a thread where we can share creative media re our condition. I know when I'm down and out, poetry is very therapeutic for me. Hoping to give you a bit of a laugh and inspiration! Here goes:
Misconceptions of the Non- Diabetic Mind
"You shouldn't eat that"
They all say in shock,
As I pick out a snack;
Just a small bit of choc.
"But you're not overweight"
They all start to blab,
For the hundredth time I state,
"my condition was NOT caused by flab."
"Does it hurt to inject?"
They ask me in wonder.
"Sometimes", I reflect,
"But it's better than being 6 feet under!"
"Well, my uncles type 2"
They say knowingly
...I have news for you;
That's your uncle, not me!
"Are you going to die?!"
They all say in terror.
"Of course," I reply,
"No one lives forever".
If only people knew more
About diabetes
Even me, who is fighting this war,
Doesn't understand it completely!
Dieticians, GPs and registered nurses,
Sufferers, relatives and friends.
We can all do our own little bit to reverse this
Misconception, this ignorant trend.
Always answer questions people ask -
Even if you've done so hundred of times.
Because the more understanding that we all have
Could result in a cure, improving thousands of lives.
Please post your own stuff, bring a bit of creativity to the table
Xx
