Hi everyone. I am type 2 diabetes with fatty liver
and i am 3 weeks into low carb high fat diet and it was going really well. My BP is stable at around 115/76 and i am off BP meds....blood sugar levels are between 6.6mmols in the morning and 4.6mmols before bed. However....i am gaining weight now

This is my typical day:

I fasted from 7pm the night before till 2pm with coffee and cream to start my day...then i ate 2 small bowls of home made cream of tomato, bell peppers and basil soup. Then i had a matchbox size square of cheese. Then i had 1 bowl home made cream of mushroom and chicken soup at about 7pm. Then fast again till 2pm the next day. In a week i have gained 4lbs!!
What am i doing wrong? Is it the dairy?

I'm not sure. Certainly not my experience. Is there any other factor you haven't considered, or it too soon perhaps to see results?

Hi dbr10.....i lost 7lbs the first week then 3lbs the second week. I have made no changes this third week but i have abdominal bloating again. Whatever is going on its not affecting my blood sugar or bp. Its very odd

Could be water weight the body can vary in weight by quite a bit from day to day...

Could be too few calories, your body will go into starvation mode which means you could put on weight at low food intakes..

I would say the second by looking at your intake...., if you click on the links in my sig you will be able to work out your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate).....

Then use the calculator to work out your macro's ....and aim for no more than a deficit of 20% of your calories for weight loss....

Use Myfitnesspal to keep track of your daily calories and see how you go....guessing really does not work that well (been there done that)..

Jase

Just a personal thing but would not do IF with LCHF , I have done both (still LCHF) but would stick to just lchf till you know where you are at......to many variables and you dont know whats causing what....

What's in the soup?

Are you allergic to dairy?

Thank you mfactor....i will do that and thank for the help. SunnyExpat.....its just fresh basil, chopped tinned tomatoes, chopped red and green peppers....cooked..blitzed then double cream added. I dont think i am allergic to dairy. I bloat after eating the soups though....may be an intolerance? Or as mfactor says....starvation/fasting. Not a clue to be honest

I would also say that you are not eating enough and in starvation mose

@NurseDee Perhaps you should average out your weight loss over the month rather than look at it weekly. Pesky hormones can really throw a spanner in the works.

Hope someone here can come up with suggestions. Someone will have advice

Yes @dbr10....this is a terrific community and i am grateful for any/all advice. Thank you

The cream would certainly do it for me. I am not allergic to dairy but I do bloat from it and pack on the pounds. I enjoy neither haha so I stay away.
I do envy all these people who can eat dairy. Cheese, cream, yogurt etc. I ,I've all dairy but it doesn't love me.
If you are bloating it is your body telling you something. Try making the soups without the cream and have some guacamole on the side or drizzle some olive oil in it

I am surviving on soups due to a stomach and colon that doesn't work.
Is there a reason that you have to eat just soups?

Its just that stomachs and colons may become distended or bloating due to lack of fibre.. Is there a reason for this soup diet?
I have no alternative other than blending foods to help my stomach but I also know that I must watch that I incorporate enough calories and foods like spinach and kale in to smoothies for all round nutrition.

I have to try and add lacto free yogurts and milk for their nutrition and also an organic whey protein powder.

My biggest concern is that you may be giving your innards problems....unless you are doing low fibre for medical reasons such as mine.

Some bloating around lower colon area and below belly button can occur if you are not passing bowel motions regularly. My stomach expands to looking like I'm 9 months pregnant and before my Oral Enema I weighed 8st 8lb this morning after 4 days of no bowel movements. I know tomorrow evening I will weigh at least 6lb lighter.

And also there are hormone changes of course-lol!!

I wouldn't worry about 'starvation mode'

I agree 100% I never gain when I eat less. Sometimes I don't lose but I never gain. I survive just fine on less than 1000 cals a day. If I go up much higher I would gain. Some would call this starvation.

If you are truly hungry all the time then you maybe need to eat more but I am not always truly hungry. Certain foods will make me hungry though

I don't believe mankind evolved to always eat continuously.
There was always going to be periods of fasting, and periods of abundance.
Ease of access to food now has a lot to answer for.

Agree again. Most people eat way more food than they need and lots of it is not the right foods

As a T1 now I find fasting very difficult to keep bs steady so I eat a very small snack size BF around 8 and don't eat lunch until 3 and again small. Then dinner around 6 but small. It my version of fasting. The more I eat the hungrier I am so small meals are good. I maintain a healthy weight and healthy blood work. Food is everywhere and can be a challenge but food is not life. Eat to live, not live to eat. Just my outlook

My first thought was - time of the month. Then I wondered about the lack of solid food. I see you are not a veggie because you had some chicken soup, but you don't mention any red meat nor any fish (oily or otherwise), or eggs. Dare I also suggest that a balanced diet should include some carbs? not a lot - but just a few? This is a very limited diet so perhaps you are starving and eating your own muscle!

The dietdoctor link tends to classify burning muscle as another myth, (unless you have no body fat left) in the link above.

Then again @NurseDee how many calories a day are you eating, and is there a specific weight loss target?
