Dairy

The dietdoctor link tends to classify burning muscle as another myth, (unless you have no body fat left) in the link above.

Then again @NurseDee how many calories a day are you eating, and is there a specific weight loss target?

Agree one more time haha. I too believe as long as there IS body fat to burn your body will burn that before muscle. Of course there does need to be enough protein for maintenance and repair. This is another reason fasting is beneficial for weight loss. If one keeps eating food the body will burn the food before the fat on your body. LC is always good in my opinion but if you want to lose fat you don't need to eat high fat. Though some healthy fat is beneficial. But there should always be some protein in a diet.

Thank you everyone! I think u guys are all correct. I thought soups would be easier but yes it looks like i am lacking fibre as i used to go every morning but no bowel movement for 4 days now. Tonight i had a roast chicken breast with green beans tossed in olive oil and cyder vinegar. No stomach cramps tonight or bloating!! I havent counted calories at all really.

I will go back to eating eggs, butter, olive oil and meats like i did the first week. The reason for eating this way is because the doctor told me i had severe fatty liver and that i must lose weight in a hurry. I panicked and tried to lose weight quickly. I can see now that i was not eating the correct foods on lchf. Thank u everyone for ur advice and patience with me.

I will change back to the lchf the proper way. Will keep u all posted.

Look at the Newcastle Diet.
It has worked very well for many posters on here.

What were you eating previously? Lots of carbs? I imagine ditching those will help your liver.

Not passing anything in 4 days will cause severe bloating....
Balance of fibre is imperative for your colon to keep working. Both soluble and insoluble fibres. Eating just soups will make your stomach and colon lazy unless you have a soecific reason for it.
To lose weight quickly use smaller plates...

I was carb queen @Kristin251. Everything breadcrumbed! Rice......potatoes....chips. Shocking really. Diabetic type 2....14 stones in weight and a fatty liver. I didnt know how damaging carbs could be. I do now.

Eliminating carbs hopefully will help my liver. Ditching dairy too....sticking with olive oils and butters ect. See how that goes.

Yes I imagine those grains and starchy carbs were big culprits in your liver.
Diet overhaul is in order. You certainly don't need to stick to soups though. I would steer clear of dairy too as you said.

Think non starchy above ground veggies, moderate amounts of quality proteins like fish poultry grass fed meats etc and reasonable amounts of healthy fats. I know I will get opposition saying this but for some plant fats are better than saturated. Have some olive oil, olives, nuts and seeds and don't forget the avocado Haha. I say that because it has been the best food for my bs and lipids. I eat one a day with celery.

Your weight, bs, and liver should respond quickly. Beware of carb flu. Persevere. It doesn't last long but can be nasty.

Good luck!

My mistake about the muscle - I was really thinking of body fat I guess, but I'm no expert. I am also coeliac and have many dietary problems myself, and soon after diagnosis I developed a (thankfully temporary) lactose intolerance. This has resolved itself now - and I can tolerate cream and cheese, and also full fat yoghurt. After being told to up my fibre intake however, I found I bloated and had terrible wind which was embarrassing and unpleasant so I have to eat very little veg (and of course no cerial or bread, though this may not affect you).
I don't think you mentioned your weight (which I agree, is private) but could we know how much you need to lose? Surely you are feeling hungry on your present diet? Are there any foods you crave (a favourite is sweet stuff like chocolate)? But I feel you are on the right track ditching the dairy and eating more meat and fibre - though once again I stress, I am no expert.

I'm not a huge fiber eater either. Stops things dead in its tracks. Again with the avocado. For me it is the right kind of fiber. Other than that I use romaine or Boston lettuce wraps for my protein and some random celery radish scallions. Sometimes small amounts of steamed veg but I definately digest proteins and fats much better. I'm nor celiac either but very gluten grain starch intolerant and that generally goes hand in hand with dairy. Glad you can add it back. I can have an occasional small amount and that's about it. I hate being bloated!

Wee update. I eliminated all dairy except for cooking with butter over the last 3 days. Bloating completely gone and 1inch off my waist!!! Looks like dairy was my problem

Excellent result!
You'd be amazed how many people are dairy intolerant these days.

Happy for you. Nothing better than losing belly bloat.
You may find you can eat certain kinds occasionally.

Yes its brilliant. Fell off the wagon in the last few days and ate carbs Its shocking how fat and unwell i feel. I admit i'm finding it really hard at the moment to stay off the carbs.

I am half Italian and bread and pasta are huge staples i make for the rest of the family at mealtimes. The smell of fresh baked bread overpowers my willpower. Anyhooo.....onwards....will try to get back to strict lchf today. Wish me luck

Carbs are very hard to get off and even when you do get off and then have a 'treat/ cheat' meal it all comes raging back, like you never stopped. However after a while the food doesn't taste as good as a flat stomach, energetic body feels.. Though I love carbs, and who doesn't, they knock me out in multiple ways.. Fatigue, bloat, achy, etc. eventually it wasn't worth it. And that was all before I was diabetic so now I just don't go there, ever. After awhile taste buds change too. Bread to me just doesn't taste like much, it's the butter, lol so I just eat the butter. There are plenty of other things you can put pasta sauce on and lots of recipes for veggies alternatives. Not the same I know but we can adjust. You just have to get creative. I understand how hard it is cooking for everyone else. It's tormenting. My kids are grown and gone so it's much easier now for me

Hope you feel better and good luck!

The HF in LCHF has a couple of functions in the diet.
Firstly it provides an alternate source of energy to replace that lost through carb reduction. it does this without adding to the glucose stream that carbs and protein do, so is 'clean energy' as far as bgl goes

Secondly, the HF by providing this energy source, maintains energy for when the bgl gets low, Our body starts burning fat instead of glucose. Some of this fat comes from body fat and thus reduces fat round the liver etc which other diets cannot shift, But if you consume excess fat then this will also be stored as body fat leading to weight gain.

Normally on LCHF you expect to lose weight as the ketogenic diet burns up body fat. This is where one can be cunning and adjust fat intake to give weight loss or weight gain, or keep weight static. This last month I dropped my carb intake down, and lost weight from 68kg to 57kg in a couple of weeks. This was not what i wanted, so I upped my fat intake (bulletproof coffees) and this morning I was at 67,2kg again, So it works!

Suggest you reduce your fat intake and see how it goes. If you do this, then consider also breaking fasts so that you don't overdo the starvation part. At the end of the day it is a question of finding your own balance and personal fat thresholds,
