Dexcom one + wire broke off

I recieved a dexcom one sensor as part of a trial, I attatched it to the underside of my arm. The app threw up an error and told me to remove the sensor which I did. However when I looked at the sensor I notices the wire had broke off and wasnt on the table where i was sitting.

Has this happened to anyone else? I do have an appointment at urgent care in the morning just to see if the wire is still in my arm.

I've been using Dexcom One for a couple of years now and never had a problem with it. Personally I find it infinitely more reliable than Freestyle.

Thanks for the reply, I must have just been unlucky then. Urgent care examined the site but couldnt determin if anything was in there, as its plastic it wont show up on xray so they advised to keep an eye out in case of any infection. Chances are its on the floor somewhere but its so small and fine i cant see it. Dexcom are sending me a replacement and a return label to send the faulty one back.

Thanks for the info. Its the first time using this system so i probably over reacted, but the urgent care staff were great. Its reassuring to hear from others that have had this experience.

Hi,

If the probe is still under the skin?
Keep an eye out for any reaction as if a splinter or thorn is imbedded.

To be frank though,
I wonder (would also question.) if the actual probe was incorporated with the Dexcom assembly in the first place?
Hence the error…

There was deffinately a probe when I took off the cap of the applicator, but yeah I wonder if it was properly attatched. We couldnt feel anything under the skin but then its so fine, i guess it would be difficult to detect. I will certainly keep an eye out in case of infection tho. Thanks for the reply.

I’m not familiar with the D1.
But what’s normally seen easily when prepping to fit on inspection is the “hole punch” that retracts after doing it’s job burying the probe?
With the libre the hole punch is U shaped spike & contains the probe within the U.
From memory when I used the Dexcom 6 the principle was similar though I found the applicator a funny angle..

The insertion filament is not plastic - it would not conduct electricity if it was.

It may not show up on an X-ray though because it is so fine, OR as Jaylee points out, it was never there in the first place.
