Diabetes on Jeremy Vine show earlier today

Well, just because someone is overweight it doesn't mean they will become T2 as you need genetic susceptibility but being overweight does increase the risk. Once diagnosed T2 and being overweight then reducing the weight will almost certainly reduce both BS. I don't believe for one minute that T2 causes obesity other than in very rare conditions.

Respectfully, I must disagree here. Weight gain is one of many symptoms of Type 2 Diabetes and is not at all rare. Hyperinsulinaemia drives weight gain. There are far more overweight/obese people who are not of T2 than there are with the condition which is where, as you say, a possible genetic predisposition may come into play.

Far more likely to be insulin resistance that causes obesity... insulin being the fat storage hormone...
.... and Insulin Resistance is metabolic syndrome/ syndrome X which is the start of....T2. Trust me, this can start years before the BG levels are affected, so no diagnosis is made until the BG levels go up. If only I had known about low carbing 30 years ago.... If only the nhs tested all obese people for insulin resistance instead of wasting their time on BG tests.....

And if only current NHS advice to eat low fat with starch at every meal could be revised.

He is at it again today (6/4/18) he will be discussing the sugar tax, and his guest is Dr Malhotra. So he then goes on to talk about "full fat coke"

How utterly ignorant

Oh dear.
Apparently there is a new group called Idiots against the sugar tax, I believe. Just follow the money.

Thank you SO much - haven't had cake for weeks and weeks since going low carb - this looks like a very delicious option! :hungry:
@eggs11 - I can vouch for it too. My husband made this cake for my birthday and topped it with a very indulgent ganache. It was proper lush, especially with clotted cream on the side (I'm West Country by birth too). It was such a hit he made it again last weekend, minus the ganache.
