DIABETIC CAT

Hi Hana,
I know your overweight but I've always said that many people are that way not because of their lifestyle it is often down to their genetic make up.In my family none of us has a weight problem, pre diagnosis I could eat as much as I wanted when I wanted, my weight was never a problem, even now my diet is high in dairy fats, butter, full fat milk, fresh cream etc. which would be an absolute no no to you.The medical proffession dont take genetics into consideration, if your overweight its your lifestyle thats to blame, seems to be their only answer, after diagnosis I was put on the standard diabetic diet which was totally unsuitable for me. I was losing weight and at one stage was down to 10st 7lb I felt awful had no energy and tired all the time.If I had'nt asked for a referal to a dietitian I think I would have wasted away. Thanks to the lovely Linda my dietitian I'm on a diet more appropriate to my needs.Sorry I'm rambling on but my point is that we are all individuals with different needs but the medical proffesion does'nt recognise this and treats us all the same regardless of genetic background.Problem is I can't see them changing.
Now to your other point Cats, my problem is that I get far too attached to them and I don't think at the moment I could take another one on.Sooty was a C.P.L cat that gave me 13 years of pleasure but for now its not for me.

Best wishes Graham

Ps My weird sense of humour is what gets me through all that life can throw at me and laughter is the best medicine in the world

I have seen an article about the catkins diet on the internet. It is right enough. A lot of cat food especially dry foods have lots of added carb. You don't get this with birds and mice. In my opinion the commercial stuff tastes better but isn't as much fun.

Meryperly.

(back to english) If I remember rightly there are such delicacies as ash in some cat foods.Ok here goes,Cereals min.4% rice in white pellets,Veg protein extracts, meat and animal derivatives, oil and fats ,minerals, yeast, veg.Protein 32%,Fat 10% Ash 7% Fibre 3% etc etc. that is Go cat senior cat food BTW.

I doubt if they put ash in cat foods. As part of the analysis process they would burn a sample & weight the residue. It will indicate the mineral content. YOU contain ash on that basis.

Meeow :P

I've got a neutered male bengal going spare if anyone want him. Just p***ed on my headphones.

All the best,

fergus
