Hi, I want to ask if anyone else has experienced bad treatment from their Diabetes specialists/nurse?
I have had type 1 diabetes for over 48 years, too long.
I was prescribed a libre 2 monitor (love it), however it’s had a downside.
As soon as my diabetic nurse realised that I was in target for 86% of the time, I was immediately discharged from their services.
Not only that, I was told that if I had problems in the future to see a GP and ask to be referred, with no idea of how long a referral would take.
After continual care from the Diabetic services since the age of 6, I feel completely lost.
Any advice?

That's appalling. As a diabetic you have a right to regular annual reviews, foot checks etc for life. They have to provide the service. I suggest you complain to the surgery practice manager or if it's the diabetes clinic that has 'discharged' you make sure the surgery nurse takes you on.

It was the diabetes clinic. Unfortunately, I know that the nurse at the GP practice is useless, she developed type 2 herself and practically ignored it. My other worry is that the GP won’t prescribe any new insulins or tech, as their first thoughts are to cost. I can’t blame them, I understand the financial issue, but all my life the Diabetic clinic have been the better help. I have written to the head consultant, I am now awaiting their reply.
It’s extremely upsetting and worrying.
Thanks for your reply.

To be honest, I wouldn't expect my GP to have a clue about T1s or current insulins, let alone new upcoming ones. (That's after 52 years of T1, in UK Australia and now New Zealand). Just because your control is fine now doesn't mean issues won't arise that need a T1 specialist, and I totally empathise with your unhappiness. I'm out of touch with current UK procedures, so can't help with getting your hospital coverage back, but just wanted to wish you every success in that attempt.

Serious suggestion, I wonder if the hospital nurse didn't check your records and assumed you were T2, and therefore could be sent to GP care.?? (Not that Gps are necessarily any better at looking after T2s on insulin, but they may have a bit more practice.) My guess the issue is only money indirectly, they probably just have too many diabetics on their books and a big backlog of appointments.

Good luck and virtual hugs. (And welcome to the forums)/
