I want to know
1, just how many medical staff actually, follow these posts,
2, do they get inspired by them or what.
3. what they think about the fact that so many people on here are so well informed ,
4,
and has it helped them in their care of the diabetic patient and if not why.

I'm yet to meet a doctor that actually has the slightest interest in their patients views or knowledge :(

A large number of people come to this forum because they think they are going to the Diabetes UK site. My GP practice provided DUK information leaflets. I've even seen people post on this site who still think that they are on the DUK site.

Not that my GP who told me about the DUK site would have taken any notice of the posts. When I asked him about the Counterpoint Study he simply sneered 'who's going to do that'. Wrong site or not, if he would have ever taken the trouble to look, he would see that there is interest about it and people willing to try it.

Rude people !
If I was a doc, I wouldn't spend time on a forum to be honest. Most of us are here cos we have to ! I think a doc could learn much from here but there is also a lot to filter through. They have their training and medical papers and that's what they practice. Not saying that's right, just what happens ! If I was a painter, i wouldn't join a painters forum. Bit different but same idea !

Doctors do read postings on this site from time to time and do post from time to time. You dont always want to tell people that your a dr or a nurse. Theres loads of doctors and nurses who specialise in different fields and diabetes / endocrinology is just one of them.

I have a brother in law who's a practising GP and he simply had no time to get into thinsg like this that are incredibly specialist. He leaves the house before 8am, gets back after 6pm adn has hours of paperwork to do in the evenings. When's he goiong to have time.

In the 6 months since diagnosis, he would admit that I know more about managing the condition than he does. But that probably would not apply to all of his patients.

That's a shame, I've met several.

I can think of three daibetes specialists I've met in the last 6 months.

I can also think of several specialists who've been treating my son

Maybe most patients are not doing as much as we do to get informed and bring knowledge to the discussion

lol so its our own fault the doctors suck? maybe they take type 1 more seriously?

my last doctor appt, i had a list of notes and questions, after the look of disgust and the complete dismissal of my first question i folded the list and put it away

Any HCP that posts on here get torn to pieces very quickly.
Most seem to give up and never seem to return for some reason.

If there were Drs. and DSN's on the forum they could only give you general advice. It is unethical for them to give one to one advice without a face to face interview and they would also need your written medical history.
You hear more about the bad ones than the good ones and it is the same for all professions. People rarely bother to comment on a good professional but will moan about one they consider useless.

Soooo true!!! I'm an administrator in a GP surgery and work very closely with do called 'specialist' diabetic practice nurses..... They know nothing, honestly, they sometimes talk together about patients they've seen and the advice they have given and I sit cringing in science with my head in my book!!!! , i stay well away from my own GP surgery and stick to the specialists.

i have to agree, my daughters life was saved by the top endocronologist.. dr spoudeaus GOSH this lady is amazing and i could never repay her for what she has done

i dont talk about my little one much

so i am talking about GPs i have met tbh, of course they arent all bad, luckily my little one is in bupa otherwise would never have seen that doctor, i havent seen any specialists for myself so maybe that the problem, only GPs suck lol
