A specialist would obviously be everyone's first choice but not everyone is afforded the opportunity unfortunately.

Soooo true!!! I'm an administrator in a GP surgery and work very closely with do called 'specialist' diabetic practice nurses..... They know nothing, honestly, they sometimes talk together about patients they've seen and the advice they have given and I sit cringing in science with my head in my book!!!! , i stay well away from my own GP surgery and stick to the specialists.

Maybe most patients are not doing as much as we do to get informed and bring knowledge to the discussion
People rarely bother to comment on a good professional but will moan about one they consider useless.
A lot of my schoolmates went into medicine, law, dentistry, accountancy etc and I met a fair few at university.
Beware of people claiming to be experts.
most of my school mates went into prison

I find it's better to beware of people claiming their book will make you the expert personally.
ive managed to become an expert by never reading any books or having any knowledge lol you ask the wife she will tell ya
What a surprise ! The doc left after a low carb thread lol !We did have an enlightened GP join and post last year but sadly doesn't post anymore
