Does anybody else get irritated and stressy?!

Yep, I get this too (diagnosed 30 odd years ago) I find it most often when levels are changing rapidly or if I've run low for any length of time.

To be honest I've always felt well running at around 7 and if I manage to run fairly stable around there it tends to go away.

Easier said than done with an 8 month old though!
 
Echoing a lot of what others are saying. I'm 26, been diagnosed for 4 years now. When I get a bit high about 15+ I get ratty, irritable. My nurse said its common, again like you my doctor could not confirm or deny anything. If I get snappy with my missus she'll usually go "Do you want to check your levels?".
 
I am 25 years diagnosed, and yes when your blood sugars are high you can get very irritable and sometimes lash out. I normally get tightenings around the chest area and my breathing would be shallow and my mouth gets dry and sticky. This can be frustrating but easy to correct by taken extra insulin to bring the sugar down. Always remember to test first so that you dont administrate too much insulin. When low im like a drunk but still get frustrated as i hate when people go into meltdown thinking im dying. Thankfully im very well controlled now after years of abuse.
 
Well,

I've been to the clinic and told my consultant about my fits of rage.

She has asked if my bloods were low at the time, I wouldn't say so because it happened again today and I've been no lower than 8.5.

She has said that it could all the things I have experienced in the last year, diabetes, moving 400 miles, new job etc but I know it isn't that..

I'm going to make a conscious effort to test bloods when in a rage.

Probably the same response op got too.

Hey ho just have to wait and see. They said they will help me keep an eye on it.

You got more answers then me! I think will just have to figure it out ourselves it's hard to explain to people that haven't got diabetes I think and especially trying to explain something that people cannot see or feel. Hopefully it's something we can figure out and settle it soon
 
Yeah, have you checked your bloods when angry/irritated? That's my next thing to try. It happened again today and had to go and sit in the back of my van for half an hour to cool off, I explained to the doc that it isn't psychological as such I get this gut felt anger it's weird. Keep me posted with how you get on and I'll do the same.

Me tooooo!! You are not alone.

I have been diagnosed type 1 for just over two years...I finally seem to have my moods under control. Keeping my levels steady has been relatively easy. Its the mental side I have struggled with.

It is a LOT to come to terms with, no matter how well you appear to be coping, it is a shock and it is hard work.... Believe me when I say it does get easier and the moods do get easier but you need to help yourself...you need to explain to your partner and help them understand.

I would be fine the one minute and then my boyfriend would leave - to go make a cup of tea for example - and then when he came back I would be irritable as hell and cause on argument for no reason. He has been amazingly supportive though. It wasn't just him, at several points I felt like quitting my job just through the fact I was irritated by my colleagues...!!!

It really does get easier but stick with it and try and find a coping mechanism...find a way to realise you are getting stressy and take a time out....It worked for me....but it did take almost a year for the moods to subside.

Stick with it!! Feel free to message me if you want to talk...I have been diagnosed since nov 2012 and yet to find many people my age (mid twenties) who were diagnosed at a similar age !!
 
I think it might actually be the rate of blood glucose change that causes it rather than the actual levels. I've seen some posts on here comparing it to the glucose changes ladies experience that cause PMT (obviously not qualified to compare myself !)
 
I get like that , if I start snapping at my friends they know what is likely to be wrong, it means my sugars are high, they just tell me to test myself, that actually serves as a trigger to calm down and I start watching myself, this helps me get back to normal.

When I have a day or 2 of high sugars I have to modify my diet for several days to get back in control, once back down I normally have a few weeks where I can be more relaxed about my diet though I do have to eat to my meter until I have been stable for a week.

I am lucky I have good support from my GP who is the practice specialist on diabetes so more understanding than some GPs I have heard of.

My bloods seem normal when I get irritable but I've noticed in this week that its sudden drops or sudden highs I have multiple checked when I can feel myself getting angry to when I'm full blown angry, and yesterday I skipped lunch as I was so busy and by dinner time I was raging

In my opinion I would say that it is 90% likely to be a matter of high sugars. I have had type 1 for 24 years now and I become short tempered, irritable, cranky and generally in a mood where I don't enjoy my own company if my sugars are high. If you find yourself feeling like that, check your sugars you may be surprised by the results.
Newly diagnosed takes a while to get your dosages right and understanding your carb intake correctly. I would recommend doing the DAFNE course. I did it two years ago and it has improved my sugar control no end. (Doing the DAFNE Repose trial with a pump.)

I've noticed that in Sweden the nurses knows more about how diabetes can change the mood or for example for me make wounds on the skin hard to heal. I'm sorry if my English isn't quite accurate in the illness / symptoms and medical dictionary expressions...
Just bare with me and someday you'll get my point, I hope.
It's also the nurses that knows about dieting and so on, the doctor just write my descriptions and read the lab tests:)
 
I'd deffo say test your blood sugars if you're getting hangry,I think you'll find they're getting a bit low,it'll save a lot of angst between you and everybody you're getting upset with,my o/h can tell me,before I even know myself,that my bs is going down!!

Honestly give yourself a break. You have just been dealt a bit of a blow and you have got loads to get used to and roll into your life. Also unlike me who was diagnosed as a baby, you knew what life was prior to diabetes which is really hard. Hopefully things will settle down and the more control you take of it hopefully the quicker this will happen. I hope your partner can be supportive and yes of course you are going to have times when you bicker but maybe use this as an opportunity to learn about it together and draw strength from that. 38 years as a T1D.. I'm passive when low. But can get a little edgy when high.. I do deal with a lot of irritable people (musicians mainly.) which don't help. No one would blame you if you just walk away. least said & all that..!
Work wise I'm lucky to mix it up in a busy warehouse with a great bunch of lads. So there is a lot of explosive good natured banter (not for the faint hearted sometimes.) which helps us all.. Lol ;)

At home. My wife & I may dissagree but never argue any issue is resolved within the hour. Good communication is key to this.
I tend to focus my stress (if any) into creating music.... :cool:

Hi,

I have been to Sweden.. I found the diet on offer more agreeable as a gigging Diabetic than any other country I have been to... Lol

My motto is understand the mood. Don't let it rule. Or the wounds will be harder to heal...:D

Hang in there Stephanie.I felt exactly like you 5 years ago when I was diagnosed and still do, even though I've got my T2 pretty well under control. It's the frustration of not being perfect anymore, especially as you are so young. Make sure your carbs are level, stress is the worst thing, though it is good to shout a bit and not bottle your frustration up, you will in time get used to the diabetes 2, I wish you well and know you will overcome the many hurdles in life .I am a writer and sometimes it is very difficult to concentrate, I just walk away from my laptop and take time out and then go back to my writing.
 
Hi , have you seen the film "enemy of the state" the character played by actor gene Hackman was a diabetic and he was explaining to will smiths character why he was so cranky .....because his blood sugar levels were up and down and stress so he needed a quick hit of carbs to calm him down .....just an observation but. I know I get a bit cranky if I'm hungry or stressed
