Don't like fruit but don't mind some vegetables I love yoghurt with some fruit but not fruit on its own

Hi - I think it depends on you and what the advice is attempting to achieve. The current "eatwell plate" advice does recommend eating quite a lot of fruit.

I don't follow that advice. For example, I now eat very little fruit and very few root veg. Which goes against the standard advice as you say. I do eat green veg.

Speaking as someone on about 20g carb/day in total there is too much sugar for me in both fruit and root veg - 20g is roughly the equivalent of one apple. Conclusion...I'm happy with my progression on both blood glucose levels and weight loss.

I adore fruit but it is no good for me. Am going to try a little on Christmas day. There is also a recipe I want to add a little. But shall see. Generally if I eat fruit normally my weight rockets. That is before I started testing. Now not sure as haven't tested and ate fruit. Everyone is different.

If the "eat fruit" advice comes from the so called Eat Well Plate as @KennyA suggests it might, then definitely feel free to ignore it! Fruit can be full of sugar and so should be treated with caution. particularly if you're a T2 and trying to manage your glucose levels and/or weight with your diet.

I do like fruit (with or without yoghurt!) but as I eat a low carb/ketogenic style diet with a maximum limit of 50g carbs a day) , I'm very careful about which fruit and how much of it I can eat. I'm able to eat more above ground and leafy type vegetables though. And I find that using a meter to check and manage my pre and post meal glucose levels, my weight tends to look after itself.

I used to love fruit, and being under the impression it was Good For Me, ate loads. Then came the T2 diagnosis, lots of research especially on here, and I realised that for diabetics in general, fruit should be kept to a minimum, and only a few types at that. I don't do "just one" so for my temperament it was better to see fruit as another item on the "No" list and not eat it at all. I eat loads of the kind of vegetables that are fine for diabetics.

The result is that my blood glucose is fine on no medication, I've lost a shedload of weight, I feel better than I have in years, and - I don't miss fruit.

So eat the veg not the fruit. Your blood glucose will thank you for it and you’ll still get loads of micronutrients from the veg. Just avoid or seriously limit the starchy ones - like potatoes and parsnip for example. In Australia they say 5+2 so already emphasise the veg part. I’m not sure there’s anything that advises fruit over veg anyway

The government changed the advice on the at least 5 a day a while ago so say no more than 2 of those should be fruit.

Most T2 diabetics find that eating so much fruit is a problem. If doing low carb eat a few berries, not tropical fruits, etc. that are much higher in sugar.
