You are always such a polite and thoughtful member of staff @Cumberland .. Do take a couple of days off.. I won't need the car I am staying in town near the hospital untill next Sunday ! And besides we can make do with walking and fresh air for a few days ..
m,lady

I have enjoyed my few days off thank you very much

I am back ready to serve your ladyship

Been waxing and polishing the car all day it looks magnificent
@Cumberland you really are to good ..
Now don't forget we are having an open day to the public , I am not in favour , not really , privacy and all that , but if it generates income then during these times , needs must ..
You could take the visitors around in one of the cars on short trips round the grounds , maybe as far as the lake to see the swans and perhaps organise horse rides for the children ..
@NicolaB70 thank you so much for acting as tour guide , you seem to know the house and it's secrets so well ..
Don't forget to charge extra for the public to go in the haunted room , the one grannie Aka @chris lowe loves so much ..
Well just charge extra to see grannie lol :hilarious:
And @MARGAR i understand you have not been to good , but I must say , don't strain your good arm when handing out cups of tea , that China is hall marked  ....
Do your best team .. We are going public at downtown !!!! Lol ..
Now I am off to make up .. I maybe a while

I shall be delighted to drive the guests around the estate and down to the lake I am sure they will all enjoy that m'lady

For anyone interested in how it was really like for people who worked below stairs there is a documentary that you can catch up with on BBC player. Servants. The true stories of life below stairs.

I have and in my life , met great aunts and uncles who were in service .. Amazing family history .. That's true of course ..
For me Downton is entertainment :bag::bag::bag:

There have been great tv programmes on about life below stairs .all interesting ..

Just remembered from my family history research .. Servants were considered privileged ..
Some people just lived in dwellings .. Moving around when they could not afford the rent , journeymen .. Often travelling looking for work .
Goodness the work houses were the worst though .. But then the voice of freedom , we owe a lot to those who gave us a voice for equality .. The suffergets ..(spelling) ...

So yes for many being in service was seen as a good job ...

Ok .. I was getting serious there for a min ... Back to wardrobe to meet the public :bag::joyful::happy: it's going to be a really good night

I can't even get dressed, I'm sure you wouldn't like me to be seen in my flannel nighty and an old Army blanket over my shoulders, handing out tea. I'm so sorry, unless someone can help me dress I will have to decline. I hope you will understand.

lol...its been a week today, I'll be back soon, I hope. Love to all.
It's been a week , how are you doing ?
I knew Nicola would offer her services ..
Not a bad cook you know , I have had a taste of some of her dishes , don't tell Carson though , or else she really will be cook X

I have had a relaxing day , found the daily papers on my bed .. And my clothes and breakfast tray ..
But I have just had to entertain myself and dress myself today .. Times are getting strange ..And the house is having a good clean after all those public visits here yesterday .. Seems we are a little strange here :cat: X

Talking of history ,,next Monday the 1939 census is comming out ..:) I will love that ..like to see how my family in history progressed through their lives ...

seems and I only just learnt this today, that there was no .. 1931 or 1942 taken (war)
So if my facts are correct . After the 1939 , the next set of online data will be released for 1951 ..
But 1939 first .. See what your great greats are up,to .. There were a lot of upstairs and downstairs you know relationships !

Last year on one family history site , for free for the whole weekend on rememberance Sunday you could look at so msny records ..
And on one you could put virtual poppies where the fallen had died ..
My memory goes to Harry E.... E... ..... .... Only 19 years old .. He died out right by a shell , he stuck to,his gun , this was a brave thing to do .. He was a gunner and rode a horse .. What a brave great .. Before WW1 he was a butchers errand boy ..
My great grand parents also adopted a son from st Pancras workhouse where he was born , people got paid to adopt babies from the workhouses .. He survived both the Boar war and first WW but he suffered so much from gas ..
His mother married in the work house they died in the work house ..

Goodness talking of workhouses , it will be Nicola's call the midwife soon .. Looking forward to it ..

Yes lady Mary likes a bit of social history .. Anyway must retire to my room now , just a cup of hot chocolate will be fine ..
