Expectation of readings post mealtimes

By how much (1, 2 3 points?) Would one expect readings to rise about 2 hours after a meal .?
Im not a beginner but would like this answered. It might also be of interest to newbies
I am type 2 [ i take 1 dose of insulin a.m but dont expect that to affect any type 2 answers]
 
"perfect" is below a 2 point rise at the 2 hour mark ie pre eating 5 post lower than 7, but the closer to your starting point the better

Of course some people might set personal higher or lower goals for whatever reason

Anyone got any thing different to share? A doctor is going through my readings very thoroughly. It is interesting to hear what members think before he phones me with his review
 
To add to what @lessci says, I would say that the rise of 2 should not take you above around 8.5 or 7.8 depending where you read.

I don't think there's a simple answer to this. If there are starches and sugars in what you eat, your blood glucose will rise as the carbohydrate is digested to glucose and transported to your liver. How high BG goes depends on what you ate and how efficient your digestion is. But you're not testing for that - you're testing to see how well you cope with the level of carbs in your food.

The point about the plus two hour reading is that by then blood glucose should have fallen back close to where you started (see the graph showing rises and falls for a non-diabetic person). BG doesn't rise steadily through the two hours. Instead it will peak somewhere in the first hour or so after eating, depending on you and depending on what you ate. Some people (though not me) also report the "pizza effect" where eating carbs with fat postpones BG rise even later.

My BG is normally around the 4.7- 5.5mmol/l level before eating. For most of my meals I would expect to see (after two hours) exactly the same reading I started with. That's because I limit my carbs to around 20g/day. There's simply not enough carb in what I eat at any given meal to elevate my BG very much, so my system can and does clear it. On the other hand, should I eat pastry, I would expect to see my BG in double figures after two hours, based on what happened the last time I ate pastry about five years ago.

Thanks for your replies. I wanted to know in general what could be expected. From the beginning Ive never been a normal Type 2 ". Plus i had little input. A GP who recently took over as Diabetes lead is seriously looking at my case . Tomorrow is the day he is phoning me for the 2nd time in a month. The replies given here are useful to me to know what the normal expectation is.
 
I don't know if this is any help. But I'm currently in remission, and earlier I had a baguette (approx 65g carbs) and my glucose went from 5 to 11 mmol/L, and then went back to under 5 within two hours. Here's my graph if it's any use:

I would like to thank allcontributors. The fpvtorb phoned today . He is fairlyleasrd woth my obetall readings . For m.ne that is 4 - 8but açceptable up ro 10 on occasion
There is one other issue to address which i will address on type 2 page under. Starchy and/or fibrous foods.
