I find that afternoons are very tiring .
I sit at a desk , working on a computer, and I am catching myself having micro sleeps , and going into a dream , momentarily , then coming too ! Generally in the afternoons only !
Does anyone else experience this ?
I eat sensibly , I am on diet only type 2 . HBA1C is 6.1 but after food I can go to 16 . Any ideas ? I am trying to eat less at lunch , and no sweet things at all , may be a sandwich and crisps , or baked potatoe.......
Do i need drugs now? do i need to talk to my GP? Many thanks for any imput !

Don't rush into drugs just yet without tweaking your diet. Sounds like your high carb lunch is making you go to the land of nod. Instead of white stuff try a salad with tuna or eggs or chicken. Cut out the white stuff, potato, bread, rice and pasta. If you can buy a meter so much the better it really is vital to test about 2 hours after you have eaten that way you know which food affects you.

This happens to me too. I've started to reduce the carbs in my lunch - instead of having a sandwich and crisps I now have a salad, and a cereal bar with around 15g carb in it. Have found it helps, although I am still sleepy, am nowhere near as bad as I used to be. Also, the air con was on yesterday for the first time this year and the reduced temperature made a difference too.

Yes Yoda, I feel that you are eating too many carbs at lunch time, try salad with some protein as dawnmc suggested. I personally cannot eat any bread, potatoes, rice, pasta or crisps as they send my blood glucose really high. Have a look at the recipes in the low carb section section for more ideas, good luck x

I've been suffering with it for ages, regardless of carb content.
However in my case I've just discovered I've been eating considerably less calories than my BMR!
Just a suggestion, but something to consider as it was quite a surprise to me.

I was like that when I was working but I am type 1 I would have a large bowl of bran flakes as I could not eat them for my breakfast, having had toast for breakfast. I found that my problem was to do with my diabetes and an under active thyroid butch these condition are manageable but together they can slow down your metabolism. If cutting down on your carbs doesn't work go to GP

I dont want medication , I already have blood pressure meds .........cut the carbs right down now....did feel wobbly after a plate of chips whilst out the other night.might have been the heaps of ketchup though
Hah ! Is there a sugar free ketchup?? I wonder !!
Thank you for your replies again ...... Yoda

You could try making your own there are plenty of recipes on line tory substituting the sugar you need for a honey or sweetener. I found making my own stuff can help you count your carbs better as well as the calories.

Trying not to, but I probably will. Coffee's doing pretty good today.

Hmmm ... coffee! Now I'm wondering do you have milk in that coffee and how much. Milk is a high carb food and its absorbed at an express rate. . . AND if its a skinny milk (no fat) it gets absorbed even quicker than whole (full fat) milk.

Yes eating carby meals and having high blood sugar can make you feel tired but there are other causes of tiredness including anaemia, vitamin D deficiency, vitamin b12 deficiency and an underactive thyroid.

So if you have a non-carby meal for your lunch and are still feeling like this, it may be best to visit your doc and have some tests done.

where the heck do people come up with this garbage??? Just looked at the official carb counting guide and milk is only 5 grams of cho per 100 ml. No way is that high... and no way would he be using 100 ml of milk in a normal coffee...

Funny but when both my daughter and I drink coffee it makes us sleepy. Sorry know it off topic but could be relevant.

May sound weird but ask your partner if you snore badly.
I used to fall asleep during the afternoon and discovered I have sleep apnoea which means you are not getting a decent sleep at night so get sleepy during the day.
I now have a CPAP machine to use at night and never get sleepy during the day :)
Obviously this is my personal experience and may not be why you have this problem.
Hope you get it sorted :)

Thanks Fogeymum, No I think its what I eat to be honest , I sleep like a log , I dont snore . I have reduced my carbs , and eat brown foods now limited , I still feel sleepy , but refuse drugs at this stage . Not that I have been offered any metmorfin yet , as my HBA1C was last 6.1 I get frustrated at not being able to eat what I want , But klnow I can top up my BG to 18 if donuts are included for instance .
For me Diet only , as long as I can .
My diabetic nurse , dr , are just great , I get a good support from my surgery .
thank you for your reply .......it was something I hadn`t considered , but believe me , after a friday I can sleep for 13 hours non stop ! hahahhah , thanks again , Brian ( Yoda)
