Hi guys, hope everyone is safe and well, I’m trying to lose my last bit of weight, I was 17stone 7lb I’m now 11stone 3lb. I’ve been hovering at these numbers and want to reach my goal of 11stone. I downloaded an app called Fastic, it’s a fasting app, I’ve never heard of fasting and today is my first day doing this.
Just wondered if anyone else does this fasting stuff and if it’s any good and helps with blood sugars. Any information would be helpful
Thank you

Hi @Dudette1 . Well done on your weight loss so far, and wow, just 3lbs from your target weight.
Fasting can bring about more than just weight loss. There are benefits to blood glucose levels, and autophagy takes place when the body is not busy digesting food, (repair and renewal of worn out cells is the best way I can describe that) . I do sometimes fast, have tried fasting for up to 3 days , consuming just fluids and some broth. Although more recently prefer to eat within a small window of a few hours, thus ‘fasting’ from 7pm until afternoon thefollowing day.
Dr Jason Fung is the expert guy to watch / read.

Iwill also tag in @nutribolt , who, I believe, regularly fasts for a few days at a time, and @bulkbiker, who has been an advocate of fasting for a long time.

Thanks for the tag @Pipp .

@Dudette1 i do fast very regularly. in fact I am 51 hours into fasting right now and would be breaking at 60 hours mark tomorrow.

You can read about my experience on the pdf in my signature but long story short, fasting helps in regulating blood glucose, reducing weight in a sustainable way and if done right will also help in reducing other inflammations and risks. Longer fasts also allow regeneration of cells and removal of damaged cells.

Like Pipp said Dr. Jason Fung is quite an authority on the subject and it was his book "The Diabetes Code" that inspired me in the first place. His videos are quite entertaining as well.

Hope this helps but if you have any other questions on my personal experience of fasting I will be happy to answer. :)

Best of luck.

Thanks for your info guys, amazing stuff, I will check out the links and signature. I’m doing the 16 hour fast and eat in the 8 hour window. Fasting from 3pm till 7am the next day. I was just unsure with blood sugars mainly if it’s possible but sounds like it’s a good thing for us. Wow nearly 60 hours. I must admit I feel pretty good and not bloated like I usually do in a morning.couple of hours to go. Thanks you for the help

I do some fasting, although less this year than last so far. I believe it helps a lot with both weight and BG control, although I do keto as well, so the results are a mix of the two. My belief is if you had to choose between low carb and fasting, low carb is the more important of the two, but together there is synergy.

A note of warning though... if you have "dawn phenomenon" (ie elevated fasting readings in the morning) you might see those elevated readings extended throughout some or all of your fasting period. I've seen this referred to as extended dawn phenomenon. I've done 50+ hour fasts and have seen my glucose stay borderline for maybe 36 hours or more in some cases. To be clear though, even with this dawn thing going on, my A1C dropped significantly and I got pretty close to my goal weight.

Good luck.
