Trudy - What medication, if any do you take for your diabetes? That would certainly have a bearing on my response.

I'm not really a fan of sugary, sweet drinks, unless you're on a certain types of medication.

I'm on metformin twice a day

Personally, I wouldn't be using Lucozade if my bloods ran a little low when ill. I'd try a cup of tea, with milk and see if that helped. It's unlikely, as a T2, on Metformin, that you would have a medically significant dangerously low sugar event (unlike the potential for T1s), and sometimes drinking something like Lucozade can elevate things quite a lot and lead to a bit of a yo-yo effect.

But, it's clearly up to you, what you feel comfortable doing, as it's important not to be frightened, or that potential to just destabilise things further.

Be gentle with yourself.

Hi. You could just try a few glucose tablets; cheaper than sugary drinks and more measured. I would be a bit worried about vomiting even with a sugar of 3.8. I don't believe vomiting with a hypo is common? Do see the GP if it doesn't improve.

I've just had the same bug and was rough for 5 days. I'm not diabetic but have reactive Hypoglycemia and had the exact same concern. I've never fasted before so didn't know what my bs would do.

Luckily I stayed around the mid 4's. I kept my levels up by eating a couple of grapes every hour or so and sipping on no added sugar "high juice" squash. It has a little more sugar than the standard one but not too much to spike you. Although I wasn't keeping anything down for long, it seemed to do the trick for me.

If I were you, I would phone 111 for advice. I'm sure I've read somewhere that if you have a sickness bug then you should stop metformin until the sickness stops to prevent you going too low. I have no first hand experience though, so please don't stop taking it without medical advice. It may also tell you in the leaflet that comes with your medication.

I hope you're feeling better soon.
