Hi,

This appeared completely out of the blue a few nights ago. The doctor has put me on a high dose of 2 antibiotics but begged me to go to hospital. The on-call vascular told her that if I don't attend hospital for IV antibiotics then it's fatal no matter what she prescribes.

I have the worst anxiety you could imagine so even the idea of leaving the house is abhorrent to me. So the idea of being surrounded by doctors and nurses in a hospital is off the charts.

The thought of amputation isn't exactly helping matters. Has anyone experienced similar? What was your treatment/outcome?

I would second what @Jaylee has said, the sooner this is assessed and treated in hospital the better. I know this causes you anxiety but this will be taken into account by all the HCPs. Do you have a trusted friend or family member who could go with you and if necessary speak for you? Best of luck and let us know how you get on.

I cannot stand being around people I don't know, especially when unwell, but when my first kidney stone hit I crawled to the desk at A&E. (Lost my footing due to shooting pains). I know, it is extremely hard to leave the house and give yourself over to others, but please, PLEASE, go to the hospital with this. Tell them you are afraid, and you'll likely get something to relax yourself. For me, being on morphine made it easier to be so... Exposed, I think might be the right word for the situation, aside from vulnerable?

Please, get that foot sorted. I would worry less about amputation and more about gangrene. This can turn ugly really, really fast. Save your life, go to hospital. I know how you feel, I really, really do. But this needs to be seen to. Pack a bag and go. ****, I wish I could go with you and hold your hand through it, I know it's hard and scary and yikes. And I really, seriously, don't do people, so all this is saying something.

Big hugs, and please, get well soon,
Jo

I have district nurses in twice daily. My feet were fine at 4 then looked like this at 10. No pain, nothing. I had also seen my practice nurse just the day before. It came without warning that quickly.
To be fair I had 2 previous days of feeling rough fri/sat. Woke up on Sunday feeling fine but felt like extreme neuropathy..
Feet were dark red, swollen & blistering. (No idea it was coming the night before.)
I got a ride to A&E could barely walk, let alone drive.

Got seen by a virologist & got diagnosed with “foot & mouth.”

Please get your foot looked at…

Best wishes.

My mom's legs were cleaned and dressed a few times a day in the hospital, and still two to three inch sores came up out of nowhere: I noticed them before the nurses did, when I helped her to the loo. Mom didn't feel them anymore at this point, but she was on oxycodone by then. It can happen within hours, and if you have neuropathy or medication going on, you're not going to feel it until it's already there. It can go really fast, which is another reason to get looked after.

Can you ask you GP for some strong medication to ease your anxiety to help you go to the hospital?

If you don't go I'm afraid you run a high risk of ending up in hospital anyway but with blue lights on. And by then it might be too late to save the foot, and possibly your life will be in danger as well.
Please find a way to go to the hospital, even if it means getting almost knocked out with medication to be able to get there.

@samochod - that foot really does need to be assessed and treated. I feel I can confidently say that you would not be kept at the hospital any longer than absolutely necessary.

The sooner this is treated, the sooner you can be back in your comfort zone.

As everyone has said, you need to go to hospital, you really can't stay put with that. Please, please get yourself psyched up & go to the hospital, you need medical attention & now. Please keep us up to date on how you are. I wish you well & hope that you get yourself seen much sooner than later.

Best bit of advice is go and get it sorted because if it goes to bone it will be harder to treat I know all too well as I was stupid and left my wound on foot and it got badly infected to bones on my foot and no iv antibiotics and treatment saved it I had emergency operation in Jan this year and been suffering with charcot foot due to neuropathy since.

Also make sure blood sugars are spot on that is major part of allowing it to heal and give you best chance

Hoping you're okay, @samochod. From your silence, you are probably in hospital & being kept painfree & treated fully with a cocktail of ABs.

I've been thinking about you, as I think many have. Also wondering if you had necrotising faciitis, as it happened so quickly, but that is very painful & you said it was out of the blue. Whatever it is, here's to you soon being back in the comfort of your own home.
