One of my talents is drawing. I use graphite and colored pencils to create portraits of people and animals. I have recently begun a small website showing some of my drawings. If you fancy a peep you can check it out here... www.carolleatherportraits.com.

Carol

Oh wow, they're amazing, you are truly talented! The one of the lady in the red jumper holding her Dad's portrait is wonderful!

I left school at 15 so never took any exams until I went back to studying aged around 40. For my English GSCE coursework I had to write a poem about Silence, and thought 'Yes! I'll write about Exmoor!' But it turned out to be nothing about Exmoor but about lonely old age and was so distressing I never wrote another one! The teacher used it as an example of a 'natural author', and my sister who writes songs and poetry loved it, but I couldn't believe someone so dark and sad came form me! (Got an A* for the exam though ;) )

I remember when I was about 8 the class were given two weeks to write a story (we were all given the same title and it was called "the Land of Shalaboo" ) I'm amazed I can remember that !

We were told the best 3 would be binded into books. I was in the 3. Mine was all about getting lost on this island and having to fight of crocodiles and things but I remember one part when I had my leg bitten off by something and I remember describing the blood soaking into the sand and killing the beast by ramming a tree branch down its throat !

My teacher told me it was good but a bit scary for an 8 year old !

I used to get home from school and write story's I enjoyed it so much !

Maybe you should write some stuff. I hadn't written anything for years but when I saw the poetry corner in "General Chat" it sparked something !

Wow fantastic!
I would love to be able to draw paint create images.
You should be rich and famous!
Your dad looks like a friend of mine who's surname is Crew.

My talent is to be totally talentless in every way :D I come from generations of very talented artists and musicians, some quite famous, but it seems to have bypassed me completety!
Well come on, now you've got to tell us about them. :)

Oh good grief! My son played electric guitar, mainly Hendrix and Clapton, so that wasn't too hard on the ears! lol!
I was in the school recorder group and choir, can't say it was a particular talent though. Although actually the reorder thing was good, I could never read music no matter how hard I tried, but the teacher never realised! I'd bluff my way though while listening to everyone else then was able to play by ear, so I suppose that was a minor talent! ;)
I was in the school recorder group, but couldn't read music (which was a bit of a handicap) so I used to follow the fingering of whoever I was next to. The teacher obviously sussed me out and that was the end of my musical career. :bigtears:

They are super drawings, very life like. We have an Arts Trail around the village each May and you can walk around to the various artists houses and see the work they do and the local shops "sponsor" an artist and show some of their work in their windows. You can read about it here http://emsworthartstrail.org.uk/

Well come on, now you've got to tell us about them. :)

The first that we know of was William Mulready http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Mulready and some of his work http://tinyurl.com/odxdshf
His sons were quite famous too. No paintings passed down through the family unfortunately, most are in Victoria and Albert Museum or the Queen's collection :(
Also lots of not-famous artists, musicians and writers ever since then, with a few exceptions :arghh:
And a cousin is a songwriter, wrote some for Daniel O'Donnell but I don't brag about that!

Wow, that's pretty impressive.

Thank you all for your lovely comments about my drawings. I really wasn't expecting all your kind words. I love to doodle with pencils, and it takes my mind of the worries of daily life.

I am so pleased you liked what you saw on my fledgling site. :)

It's a proper Diabetics curse, is DITTO, whatever the nationality. :playful:

Don't know why I laugh.......it's a curse, a curse worse than any of the plagues themselves. :arghh:

Truly amazing Carol, what a gift you have, absolutely nobody could deny it.
You are very fortunate, it's a joy to read of someone such as yourself.

Hope you have a long happy life with plenty of commissions coming your way.

Talents!!! I haven't got one, well, except mibbie,
producing my very own shiny chrome-dome. lol.

All the best.

willie. :)

That's actually very cute, Spencer67. I like it.

"play the spoons and bust a good jews harp...
Gosh I haven't heard anyone playing the spoons in years,
same goes for the harp.
Good on you, and you got me interested enough to do some Googling.

I'd forgotten how good they could be to listen to.

Respect to you. :)

Cheers.
willie.

thanks :) thats them good ol' foot tapping stuff :D They are fun simple instruments anyone can teach themselves to play, i learnt the spoons off my uncle and the jews harp off my dad, we used to get them out all the time at christmas get togethers and also play them to guests in the Hotel bar we used to have in North Wales, those days have gone by now as my uncle has passed and we sold the hotel, but me and dad still play together when we meet up. i also play bodhran and guitar, gaelic and traditional celtic music is one of my first loves, its the irish and scottish blood in me. :smug:
