I always buy no added sugar squashes never thought they altered my readings when testing.
But I got Ribena winter spice squash with no added sugar and as I am trying to cut down on coffee of an evening, I do by the way always have decaf tea and coffee but find coffee still disturbs my sleep pattern.
But last night I did not test after my evening meal and after having the squash my reading went up to 16.4 it was 9 this morning. Now I don't know what to do?

"No added sugar" drinks and foods have less sugar than the equivalent with added sugar but the key word is "added".
These drinks (and foods) naturally contain sugar from the fruit which are likely to affect your BG.

Have you tried herbal teas? These come in many different flavours - some more fruity, some more spicy, some more herby. I drink these a lot as I want to save caffeine for the occasions when I need an extra kick. I find they have no affect on my BG.
And, you can make iced versions for the summer months.

If coffee is disturbing your sleep pattern then why not try cutting down on coffee in the evenings & just have tea. As already said 'No Added Sugar@ means nothing really. I picked up an item in the shop the other day which said Sugar Free but when i read the Nutrition Label the Carb content was extremely high. Manufacturers either do not know or choose to ignore the fact that carbs turn into sugar

You’d need to test the squash on its own to be sure. Might it have been something in your evening meal. Having said that I’ve found that squashes containing saccharine seem to raise my levels slightly thought aspartame and acesulfame seem ok.

I would not buy any squash simply because they have lots of hidden sugars and carbs!

I would suggest making your own drinks instead and here are some delicious and healthy low carb and sugar free ideas -

I choose no added sugar ones but check the carb count. My favourite is Tesco’s own brand NAS Lemon Squash at <0.1g carbs per 100mls undiluted, which makes 0.2g per 250mls diluted. Some others are higher so always good to read the label for naturally occurring sugars in the fruit.

I tried the Ribena Winter Spice, as a bit of a change and it had no impact on my sugars. Best to try it again, but in isolation of other food and drink, as already suggested.

(I usually add some lemon juice to the Ribena squash as I find it to be very sweet.)

Sadly and boringly, tap water is probably your safest bet.
I know, I don't always drink tap water.
However, a bit like new reasons to celebrate a day are usually driven by Hallmark Cards most drinks are driven by someone trying to relieve you of your money.

not all tapwater is nice ours is vile. just drinkable post filtering.

This Ribena no added sugar appears to have 0.7% carbs (1.8g per 250ml serving) when diluted 1 part (50ml) squash with at least 4 parts hot or cold water to give a 250ml serving.
So much depends on how much you drink, and how diluted it was.

I very occasionally drink Robinsons no added sugar squashes and dilute according to the instructions. It does nothing to my levels, but I don't gulp down massive quantities.

I tested pre meal yesterday and was shocked to get 18.6! I knew this couldn't be right, then remembered being a bit careless with pouring out my no added sugar squash. Washed my hands again and retested - 7.7 - phew! Maybe this could be the reason for your high reading too?

I like various flavours of tea - mint and licorice for instance, seems to be one of the best - make it will not quite boiling water and allow it to brew, then fish out the tea bags and you can keep it warm for whenever you want it.

If you like the wintry fruity taste I make a tea by putting slices of lemon, slices of ginger root and a chunk of cinnamon stick into a mug add boiling water and leave to take on flavours. I find I can reuse the raw ingredients a few times maybe with a bit of fresh lemon added which makes it more cost effective.
