My husband advised to raise this issue with members. My endo originally prescribed 20 mg once a day. After getting a repeat script from GP surgery I noticed they were labelled half per day and they were 80 mg tabs. No one told me the level had been increased. However, pharmacist said I can get 40mg tabs and not good idea to split. I told Receptionist at GP she said they cannot prescribe 40 mg. I am concerned that splitting my tablets will not guarantee exact amounts each time, plus I read on internet that gliclazide should be taken whole. However, they are not SR so maybe that doesn't apply. Now I wonder why I can't get 2 x 20 mg

Any wise bods out there have any idea on this?

I'm on 40mg twice a day and split a 80mg tablet, have been doing this for at least 5 years with no problem- there is a line down the centre of the tablet as a guide - I used to use a sharp knife to do it but I do admit it could be a bit hit and miss. Got my self a tablet cutter from eBay for £2.99 about 4 years ago and it's great still going strong

Funnily enough I bought a tablet splitter and it makes a hash of tablet - maybe I need a better one! Today I used a sharp knife one half flew off into oblivion - later found at least 3 feet away, through doorway in the lounge near cat bed. Only glad she didn't try to eat it . But your reply gives me more peace of mind regarding splitting - many thanks.

Hi. A tablet splitter should work OK - I have one. I wonder why the surgery can't prescribe 40mg? I would question that and get the pharmacy to check that they stock it.

why on earth don't they prescribe 40mg tablets? I've always had them. The only time I had 80mg tablets I found them a bl**dy nuisance when trying to split them.

Hi I am on Gliclazide 40mg a day, I have been prescribed them once but now have to spilt them with a cutter. I find that you don't have to press too hard then turn the tablet around and press again and it cuts perfectly. I don't appear to have a problem but I have only been splitting since June.
