GP and feeling ignored

Has the doctor arranged for you to have blood tests carried out?

The unusual amount of glucose in your urine should have prompted the doctor to do further glucose tests. I cannot believe he did not do this, unless there was good reason.

I'm afraid your doctor doesn't seem very clued up on what glucose in urine could mean. Did you not tell the doctor that you are drinking lots of water because your throat is dry? Let's hope you get the glucose tolerance test over and done with ASAP.

I thought they did hbA1C tests at the drop of a hat? Seems very strange. Mind you, if there's lots of sugar in urine but not in the blood then that's strange as well. (Well, at least, not something I associate with diabetes.) Did the doctor not have any suggestions as to what was going on?
Edited to add, just reread the first posts of the thread and taken in the high blood sugars. Blood tests definitely in order. Very strange.

How did they find out you had sodium in your urine? Did they put a testing strip in your sample or do it another way? Dis you have a blood test?

It is rather worrying that your doctor hasn't asked for this - did they explain why ? Your symptoms would call for further tests, so how come your mam is organising this instead of the GP ? How are you feeling in yourself at the moment ?

my local hospital does the glucose intolorence test, not my gp. i feel nausea, so thirsty and exhausted also i am very red in the face, that is what my mam says. My gp didn't explain about the results of my urine sample only that i had over 3 litres of urine in 24 hours which is apparently to much for my 4"11 frame. Apparently I need to drink less water. I have no idea what to do.

right, so your mam has been told by the surgery to arrange for your glucose intolerance test at the local hospital? I see. In the meantime, maybe drinking some bovril or an oxo cube diluted in boiling water (unless you are vegetarian) to re-balance your electrolytes to help with the lack of sodium and thirst? I forget, how old are you?

I am not a medial professional, so cant advise you on what to do, but I found that drinking only water didnt help me with the thirst, so i drink oxo, bovril, tea with a little milk instead. I found that even diet soda made me feel worse.
 
Hello @thegeekyblonde I was trying to work out if your GP had requested this test from the hospital or asked your mam to organise it ? also when is it booked in for ? as your another week down the road and no clear answers yet.

I know it must be stressful for you, but the sooner they get to the bottom of this the better.

Whilst the local hospital may do the glucose tolerance tests, I'm somewhat astonished your mother is able to organise for you to have one. I thought your GP would have to request it.

A while ago I had to do a 24 hour urine collection for testing, and I filled 2, 2.5ltr bottles, and when I say filled, I mean filled. Had I needed to pass another drop, I could not have fitted it in.

I am only a couple of inches taller than you and very slight indeed. Whilst my GP commented that I seem to wee a lot, there was no suggestion of any abnormality. All my routine and specialist tests indicate my kidneys are just nicely efficient.

I'm somewhat concerned about your GP's response to finding glucose in your urine, but apparently doing nothing about it.

Are you in the UK, and if so, are you near decent health care facilities?
 
Just a thought but, if you are over 18 years old you may well find that your mam cannot make an appointment for you, you have to do it yourself as a rule, and there are also issues around data protection and privacy, unless there are other things to be taken into account. That is what I have found recently with one of my over 18 children.

The Friendly Society Private Hospital here in Bundaberg is planning a Emergency dept. over the next year or so it was announced on the local news last night.

Qld. Ambulance Service will be offering the choice Friendlies or the Base if you are conscious

And did your GP do a blood test at the same time? Seems very odd that he wouldn't have done an hba1c given the levels you have seen?

Oh, that means she is classed as an adult then, under the privacy guidelines. Unless there are reasons for adult intervention. I understand the need for these guidelines but sometimes a parent or other adult can be helpful when arranging things : (
