Have to admit defeat.

The thyroid tests would be a good idea. Thank you.

If you Doc is on the ball, she/he'll do a wide panel. In your shoes, I'd also ask to be tested for Coeliac and potentially any other malabsortions conditions. If you're eating enough (and I have no reason to consider you're not), then your Doc will want to make sure there's nothing tricky going on.

The thought that something else may have crept in had occurred to me, I know I have to see someone. Thank you.

May i suggest going back to your doctor about your weight loss? sometimes it isnt diabetes related. It could be many things, and worth exploring maybe?

best wishes in finding a workable solution.

Thank you. I just want to go prepared.

You are right. Before I thought of taking insulin I would want an assay done, difficult in this country.

Maybe worth counting for a day or two just to get an idea, after all your GP might want to know. I am reminded of a recent thread where someone gave an example of what they ate in a day and I pointed out that, although I am not overweight and I control my BG with diet only, I probably eat 3 or 4 times their amount.

That is bad news buddy. A guy I work with is a keto body builder. When he wants to put on muscle weight he ups his protein. With that in mind there is a video by BIKMAN about uping your protein and not fearing BG rises. At least from my bad memory he says that. I can’t find it but I will when I get home

Again for clarity, the yoghurt and berries come after a low carb meal e.g a half of a fathead pizza or a steak with buttered cabbage, a little fried onion and mushrooms. I eat well, my portion sizes are good and I eat two meals per day. As I said earlier, I have started snacking again on Babybel (which I'm not fussy on but which are convenient) or a palmful of nuts etc. I have even gone as far as swapping out tea with milk for bullet proof coffee. I would really struggle to increase my calories from fats.

Other than asking for a full raft of blood tests I can't offer any other suggestions, although you could maybe take on board more protein perhaps? I am so sorry to see you having these problems and send you loads of hugs from the other side of the Pennines. xxx

I'd also ask for a c-peptide test and fasting insulin. That would give you a better picture of what is happening with your pancreas and endogenous insulin production. If it is low, then you might save a lot of pfaffing about with other drugs when insulin may be the best option for your individual case.

I eat two meals per day
Plus lots of snacks? Folk on serious weight gain diets get given 3 meals plus 3 snacks a day.... Add in another meal.

Maybe record what you eat for a few days. If something strange is going on, you need evidence that you're actually eating enough. A dietician (or the folk on here) would be able to guesstimate the calories from a list of what you eat.

So sorry this is happening to you.

I keep a detailed food diary. I am used to keeping diaries, I have one that I've done for over 15 years that covers pain and sleep. I also record changes in medications and dosages.
My food diary covers everything, intake with portion size, readings and general notes.
My diet suits my Diabetes it just doesn't suit my weight.

@Guzzler - Could I ask something fundamental? Are you actually losing weight, or do you look and feel thinner, but haven't stepped onto the scales for a while?

The reason I ask is a couple of days, I got a few more summer closthes out from their winter storage place, and chose to wear a particular pair of trousers. They'd always been neat, so I had the usual thoughts meandering through my head,...... "This'll be interesting - doing up this waist band".

Cutting to the chase, I put them on and the waist is now pretty generous, but I'm actually at the top of my personal mahoosive weight range (skirting around 48kg). I never thought I'd be thinking those trousers were roomy. I desperately don't want to go any smaller; they're a UK size 6. (I'm only 160cm tall, so I'm a pretty compact person. )

Thank you. It's good advice and I've seen Bikman's videos on protein. Unfortunately, there is little chance of me building muscle mass but I have raised my protein levels anyway when I learned that as we age our efficiency of protein metabolisn can deteriorate. Thank you for the suggestions.

Aye, I bought a good set of scales on the advice of members here. I weigh myself every sunday until last sunday when I just couldn't face it. By today I thought I had to do it and lo and behold another 2lb loss.

Without knowing your inslin level (c pettide test) it is not possible to know the best drugs to consider. Some drugs increase inslin in different ways so they don't all have a risk of hypo, others reduce insulin restiance, or remove excess BG from the body.

Remember that a c peptide test will not give a useful result unless you eat a normal level of carbs for at least a week beforehand.

When choosing drug the first step is to know the real problem, maybe see if your GP will send you to a consultant.

Thank you.

I knew I was clutching at straws, but sometimes we have to ask the basic questions. Fingers crossed for you, but please do try to have more bloods done than just the HbA1c.

Thanks Blue.
