Wow that's amazing 95 to 50 with just diet. How many carbs? I just ate a slice of pizza now my son made it at school and he said daddy I saved you a slice, I feel so bad for having it

Don't feel bad. He doesn't make pizza most days, and I suspect you would feel even worse if you hurt his feelings.

Also whilst some people have spectacular results, others don't. I went from 56 to 46 over a year with diet (and my diet was pretty fair in the first place) & exercise and TBH I found almost competitive air about this very off-putting the first few times I stuck my nose in a forum.

My view is it takes as long as it takes. What really matters is for a great many people, it can be done. It's also important to do it by making long-term sustainable changes in your lifestyle & exercise, not ones which will be a flash in the pan.

You did the right thing. This lifestyle isn't a weird food cult where eating the wrong thing on the wrong day while not standing on one leg means you're a failure and banished forever. You made your son happy, that's good. So it was carb, so what.

Chiming in to say the same as the others: Sometimes you just have to have the pizza due to circumstances beyond your control. Just don't do it every day. ;)

Oh, and I forgot to add, a few months. By the time I saw the hospital's nurse I was back in the prediabetic range at 42, and that was before 3 months were out, I believe, so the high carb diet was still affecting the numbers at that time. After that I've always been somewhere in the 30's.

I couldn't give a timescale. I just changed my diet and let the rest happen in its own time. I'm a natural stresshead so keeping records or even weighing myself regularly would just pile on pressure (I do realise it's a saving grace for different personalities - it's just not for me) and so I prefer to keep my powder dry and just let my body deal with everything in its own time. And it has! Only thing I did keep a close check on was/is BG because I needed the information in order to learn what my body had to have by way of help.

Excellent advice from all the members here, highly motivational stuff for us newbies, 4 weeks in I went from 82 to 68, now this Monday I am seeing a private consultant and I will tell him I want a AC1 done, that will be the 8 week point. Will I drop another 14? or less. God knows. But i hope its a reducation to keep me motivated on this new life style.

A good steady sustainable loss is probably the better route than a sudden huge drop. I say this not just because you are more likely to maintain the necessary changes but because in some cases a very fast drop from very high can increase the chances of issues with eyes by the worsening of retinopathy.

It takes however long it takes, the good thing is you're on the journey, arrival is more important than how long it took.
Some of us hit non diabetic numbers within a month, some take 12 months, once there, were all the same. YOUR body dictates the timescale.

over selling.... oh so many things are enthusiastically oversold
Me diagnosed abround 7-8 weeks ago, lost around 10 KG and hoping to see the 82 mmol come down to atleast the pre-diebetic range in 4 weeks time. For the folks in remission please tell us your diagnosis numbers and what you achieved 3 months latter so we can see what is attainable in real life for motivation. And also mention if you used drugs to achieve this, I am on diet only at this moment of time to see what effects this can have on numbers, if small I am open to medication.

Hi - I was diagnosed nearly 6 years ago. I’m a tall slim bloke who at the time of diagnosis was around 23 bmi. I went the Newcastle diet route and had normal ( sub 5.5) fasting levels within 2 weeks and normal (sub 48 ). - hba1c , 42 to be precise. Over the years my carb intake has decreased and my activity levels have increased. I measure everything and keep records. Gradually my fasting levels are increasing as is my hba1c. My doctors won’t discuss this as I am still in a range they consider well controlled. This morning my fasting level was around 7 and my last hba1c was 44 Re drugS. I tried metformin for 4/months prior to my last hba1c test. For me at least it makes little difference. I test regularly at least once a day eat around 20 grams of carbs Per day and do a 24 hour fast maybe once every 6/8 weeks. My bmi now hovers around 19

Diagnosed T2 end of November 2013 with HbA1cs of 60&61, and by Feb 2014 was down to 47, eating a low carb diet & taking metformin. I've remained at mainly lower end pre-diabetes levels since then , and my GP finally decided I could do without the metformin in April 2017. Doing so made no apparent difference, and I believe my results are mainly due to cutting right back down again on the carbs. I now generally eat well below 50g carbs a day, and often skip a meal - usually breakfast. (Most blips in my HbA1cs tend to be caused by health and stress issues rather than "naughty" eating...)

I was on statins for many years before I was diagnosed, but was finally able to persuade the powers that be to allow me to stop them. I believe that they were partly the cause of my T2, and stopping them definitely helped improve my glucose levels again.

I also lost about 20 kilos of extra weight during those first few months without actually trying, and have recently lost a further 10 kilos

So exactly two months on 58 days after diagnosis of being a Type 2 with a A1c at 82 mmol, I was fearfull and worried and my world was rocked.

Now after a private consultation and another A1c, shy of the 60 day mark I am 30 mmol :):)

No tablets, no medication, all turned around by myself. God bless all the folks on this forum who gave me advice.

Mid 50s down to high 30s within 3 months. The only thing hanging on was the foot on the floor (first thing) BG, that took longer to get down into the normal range. Diet only, low carb plus a meter to check my reactions to meals and see how low carb I needed to go to get my numbers down.

I occasionally have a pizza now, I scape all the fillings onto a quarter of a small pizza and throw the rest of the base away.

This is absolutely amazing! How wonderful. I’m so pleased for you.

I am hoping to have similar success when my HbA1c is tested. I was at 82 in April. Slightly different circumstances as mine was shoved up by steroids. But I’m on different meds and have tightened up the diet so fingers crossed.

Honestly, this is a massive achievement!

I was diagnosed with hba1c of 48 and prescribed statins which increased my hba1c to 54. When I came off statins due to other side effects 6 months later my hba1c dropped to normal levels which I have maintained for approx 10 years. I still watch my carbs but am lucky in that I can tolerate an average of 100g per day but I still test to keep an eye on my BS particularly if I’ve had more carbs than usual.
This is really interesting, I was diagnosed type 2 in Jan 23 hba1c @53, prescribed Atorvastatin, bloods came back yesterday at 64! I've reduced carbs, I don't eat sugar and limit my salt intake. I wan't aware that statins can have an impact.
