HbA1c result after 6 months low carbing!

Hey all

After scores of 83, then 66, my score this week was…..

34!!

I’ve been eating low carb/high fat/high protein since May, and have also lost over 2 and a half stone. However my daily target is to keep my bloods in the 4-7 zone. Any weight loss is just a bonus.

Wanted to post an update in the hope of inspiring newbies that going low carb really can work.

Next step will be to come off the meds and see if diet control is enough to keep my scores down.

All I have done is avoid food with carbs over 10g per 100g. I don’t weigh, limit or get hungry.

YES I miss biscuits and cake. But I just say to myself: my body can’t process that; I am intolerant of too many carbs.

Very grateful for the start-up support from this forum. Thanks guys!!

Well done, I’m a couple of months behind you but doing the same thing. How do you get on when carbs are calling. My horror of a husband has left cocktail sausage rolls in kitchen they spike me and I’m sorely tempted!

I must confess to having taken all the pastry off a sausage roll my kid rejected, and just eating the sausage!!
But when I see the biscuit/ice cream/chips, I genuinely say to myself: I can’t eat that. If it gets offered to me by someone else, I apologise and say ‘I’m sorry, I can’t eat [insert food type].

Good luck! You got this!

Spicy food which is too hot. Nasty people who have no idea on your life journey but feel the need to comment and be cruel.
I am sometimes glad I live alone. ;)

I don’t seem to have a problem with the sweet stuff now as if I’ve nicked a taste they’re too sweet(never thought I’d say that!). It’s those sausage rolls that are tempting me now!! Just because they are there! Any suggestions for something to just grab and snack, besides nuts and cheese?

My go-to snack attacks: celery & peanut butter (or cream cheese); blueberries or an apple, few frozen cherries; bit of ham; Greek yog; make myself a green smoothie; I used to also eat the amazing 100% seed crackers that M&S did, but they seem to have stopped selling them

What a stunning result! Very well done, and an inspiration to many I'm sure.

Re: snacks - I'm not really a snacker myself, but others have said that a hardboiled egg can be useful. If you have a regular "snack" urge, maybe you should eat a little more at your meal? If this isn't convenient, a mug of Marmite, Bovril or a stock cube in hot water with a lump of butter or slop of olive oil can hold off the wolves if it isn't convenient to eat.

My carb eating husband (and son) have strict "own tin" rules. They can have whatever they want in their tins and I have my lc goodies in my tins. Neither of us is even allowed to look in the others tins. For me their contraband has to be out of sight.

2 years in now and they are eating far fewer carbs than before, but still have the odd carby thing

Slap those little hands lol as those little fingers will be reaching for them! My husband used to be terrible for leaving things out for me to steal! Now he too has gone lchf and has gone from 21 stone to just under 16.7 in 3 months. He is not diabetic but saw my weight plummet and decided to do something about his health too.

Wish mine would. He is diabetic as well and won’t even consider trying low carbs. He used to love a cooked breakfast now won’t, even if I was to cook it for him. It’s the “diet”part that sends him running!

Well he may get to a point where he just does it. My hubby was dead against it even if I stated the obvious, "well it will not be fair to me or the kids if anything happens to you - I would just crumble without you". I was being completely honest and then one day he just dropped the cakes, bread, potatoes, pasta, pitza, fizzy sugar free and all fizzy drinks etc and started eating lchf! I think he realised he already had other medical issues that were being compounded by his weight and if I could do it he could. He has always had more will power than me anyway. He is looking so much better. Hubby says its not a diet he has just cut down ;)
