Been on here a while but never posted.
I have had type 2 diabetes for around 20 years control just got worse as time went on I was up to 9 tablets a day doctor said if we can’t get it under control insulin is the next step. So the wife said again why don’t you try that low carb diet, and again I said no, I just love my carbs, anyway got up one morning and decided to try it big time went from 500 plus carbs a day to 20 or below, then spent the next 3 weeks feeling terrible went to doctors after first week because I felt so bad told him I had started the diet and he seemed pleased he weighed me I I had lost nearly half a stone in less than a week my blood pressure had dropped so he stopped one of my tablets, so I thought just keep at it now how bad I felt, anyway to the point I am now on 3 tablets a day I don’t take any tablets for blood pressure now and at last I’m starting to feel better, blood sugars are normal 5.5 ish and I hope to stop tablets altogether so if you are thinking about doing the low carb just do it but it is not easy at first but you will get there

Well done for taking control.. it really does get easier.. the longer you are "carb free" the better you'll feel. If you've got weight to lose it will come off too.

Congratulations you’ve done so well starting from such a high dose of meds - good on your dr too to support you and manage reducing your meds. The feeling you get from better health is loads better than the short term sugar rush from the carbs I feel - keep going you’re doing brilliantly.

Very well done! I bet you can’t wait for your next HbA1c test result?

Hey @phil 2 welcome to the Forum and good work!! I would like to say Kudos to your wife for suggesting low carb to you!! I can rightly imagine that you are both happier with the way things are now.....What a whammy for your body though, so no wonder you felt so horrid!! But, in the long run, your body will more than thank you! Keep up the good work and impress that Doc of yours and he is likely to suggest low carb to other t2s as well!!
That's how it's done! Cheers/L

Hi @phil 2 welcome to the forum. Well done on your achievements so far. I have to say once you get use to low carbs its great. I started LCHF April 30th after being given a last chance before I was put on injections. Dn seemed a bit sceptical at LCHF but was willing to listen and give me 3 months to turn things round. Like you first couple of week not that good but now!!! Went to see Dn last week for an update. I had lost 8.4 kg and fetched my Bg down from 16.8 to 7.0 her face was a picture, but she was very pleased at the outcome.
I do 18/6 fasting, no food after 20.00 till 14.00 next day. Only having black tea, coffee, water and vitamin water as required during fast. I also have less than 15 -20% carbs. Well done to your other half for suggesting LCHF and for you giving it a go. You are in the right place for help, advice and support, so any questions just ask. :)

Thanks everyone for your kind words, me and my doctor can not believe the results, I just hope anyone thinking about going on a low carb just do it, one thing I noticed was that I never felt hungry you don’t need to think about calories and you can have a little treat now and again just not all the time. My doctors goal is to now get me off the other 3 tablets, which in time will happen.

well done those results are great work... well I also find it a bit hard to go really low carb, but it is such great inspiration when you write of your great results in here , thanks for sharing :):):)

I would have said one word to you when you felt terable "salt", most people need to increase their salt intake at the start of a low carb diet. However your BP tablets also clearly needed reducing.

(Very glad you had a good GP, as most GP don't like low carb diets.)

Yes you are right about the salt ringi after around 2 weeks I read somewhere about salt and started to have a glass of water with salt in and I felt a lot better after, and everyone says salts not good for you

I put a minute pinch of salt into my coffee, along with a pinch of cinnamon which seems to be enough for my needs - historically salt was vital for living well - the word salary comes from 'allotment of salt'.
