Hello

Not by my estimation - that is in the prediabetes range - but you'd be advised to take action to lower it sooner rather than later, to get back to normal.
That's not what my doctor told me that's not in the prediabtes range

Do I have diabetes if my hemoglobin a1c test said it was 6.5
That translates to 47.5 mmol/m which in the UK that would be borderline T2 which starts at 48 mmol/m.
So you are at the very top of the pre-diabetic range bordering full on T2.

In Cyprus, where we also still measure A1C in %s, 6,5% and over is considered the diabetic range. So you are just marginally in the diabetic range.

But with such a marginal result you should not be diagnosed as diabetic until you have it confirmed by a second count or other similar test such as very elevated fasting blood glucose
