High bloods

Feeling really awful and have terrible cold. Got an appt with docs on Friday as my hbac1 came back 17.1. Bit scared I may have to go on to insulin

Definatly not good, are you eating low carbs ?
See the LCHF/diet Forum, or tell us and we can try and give you an answer

Hi no still be eating bread but have just only come on to this site and heard about the low carbs so had a bean stew for lunch NO BREAD! Any other suggestions would be gratefully received. I also work 3 shift nights a week 9-7am so would be grateful for any tips for lunches as 3am!

yes your numbers are high but nothing is irretrievable. If you follow the advice on this site on low carb diet your numbers will start to tumble and that will give you the inspiration and encouragement that you need. Once you see that happening it will get easier.

I have gone low carb and cannot believe that not only am I eating less but I don't feel hungry anymore. You will be in this position in a matter of weeks and you won't look back. It is not easy but not unenjoyable either.

Vegetable frittata for a portable easy meal
No grain. No grain product. No potato/starch veg
Eat normal protein. Lots of leafy veg and more healthy fat

But the main thing for now is to get your bg down however you do it

When I was diagnosed just 1.5 months ago, my A1C was 9.0 and my after meal bloods at 2 hrs were 12.5,,,,and was feeling really awful,,,, so I can only imagine how you're feeling. After changing my diet to lchf, all my blood tests during the day are 4.9-6.2 ,,,,and NO MEDICATION ! Until your doctors appointment on Friday, drop all refined sugars and flours from your diet ,,, no soda, no rice, no sweets, no flour etc,,,if it's not a vegetable grown above ground, don't eat it ! Add some protein and high fat sources to your vegetables and you will be amazed at the changes in your blood tests and how well you will begin to feel. You have to get your BG numbers down. You will find a lot of support here and lots of good ideas :)

Thanks very much everyone. Have looked at the low carb diet and will def give it a go. Had no carbs today and bloods gone down to 18.7 still not great but I'm feeling a little better :)

it will take a few days to work its way through.

Hi. Yes, keep the carbs down and see how it goes. If you are overweight then both weight and blood sugar should come down. If you are normal weight it is always possible that you are a late onset T1 and not T2 so if your blood sugar remains too high despite controlling the carbs then consider talking to the GP about the two tests for late onset T1 (LADA). Come back for more info if needed.
