I’m diagnosed since febuary with HbA1c of 48 /6.5
According to my meter and my 2 apps agamatrix wavesence my average reading is 5.5 . On the mySugr app my predicted HbA1c is 5.0 . Now as much as I would be delighted with these results I’m not that naive to think it’s tat simple . How accurate are these averages in the real world . Also I have never spiked over 2 in the 3 months testing . My lowest reading was 3.7 after some red wine and 7.2 one Monday after no brekkie. So put that down to DP not stopping till lunch

I would say that the glucometers are arguably more accurate than the HbA1C, because there are lots of conditions which distort people's HbA1C results.... In any case, those are excellent blood sugar readings. Congratulations.

Thanks I’m goin for the blood test tomorrow after 3 months hoping for a non diabetic range . Probably a bit optimistic but ya gotta reach gor it sometimes .

To add to the comments from @EllieM I would say the value from mySugr is as accurate as the estimate it can make based on the BG readings you have given it. And they are only within the tolerance of your meter which is +/-15%.
As hB1AC is effectively and average over 3 month of all times (not just when you take a reading), any estimate is just that - an estimate. It does not know what your BG was like when you did not take any readings like when you were asleep.

But your values sounds great - well done on the hard work.

To be honest there's nothing you can do about it now anyway so you might as well just wait until you get the results. It will be whatever it is.

So true . Just lookin for that bit of re assurance that the readings are ok . Thanks s lot for all your replies . I’ll put the results up when they arrive

I test between 4-7 times a day and have always found the MySugr app pretty close:
Sept ‘17 Lab result 36 MySugr 34.4
Dec. ‘17 Lab result 33 MySugr 33.9
Feb. ‘18 Lab result 35 MySugr 34.0
Those are the three of my results I’ve compared.

Now that’s what I’m talkin about they’re the levels I would like
We’ll soon find out

Good luck for your test tomorrow, though I’m sure you’re HbA1c will show a vast improvement.

What you need to watch for are patterns and trends over time to see how you are managing long term, and these for me are just as (if not more!) important than any individual figures I may get from different sources.

My predicted HbA1c results based on my 3 monthly meter averages according to our diabetes.co.uk calculator are always lower than my actual result from the blood sample taken for the test. When I was using a Freestyle Libre sensor, that prediction was lower than my meter prediction and would put me firmly in the non-diabetic range! :wideyed: But their patterns have all been consistent.

I consider my meter data to be the most important as it shows me my regular levels and reactions to food (and other possible issues) - the HbA1c is simply an average over time (see - https://www.diabetes.co.uk/what-is-hba1c.html) and as such can't show me whether I'm keeping my glucose nice and stable or whether I'm getting big spikes and dips. My meter keeps me informed and my HBA1c (hopefully!!) keeps my DN and GP happy... So don't fret too much over your next result - just keep up with the good work and you'll be fine!

Thanks bud . My dips and highs are pretty good
My biggest rise after food was 1.3 . My problem is FBG in the morning is nearly always in the 6s but drops over the morning to 5s . Mind you I do work in a manual job so testing in the day is like testing with exercise. But starting to have either a creamy coffe and cheese before bed or a glass of Merlot in the evening . They seem to sort out the DP

I only had one HbA1c test done Since starting low carbing and exercising in early June. I measure my bg few times a day (up to 7 times), fasting, 2 hrs after breakfast and before and 2 hrs after each meal. I calculated my HbA1c to be approx 5.5-5.6. I got 5.3 from the test so the actual result was slightly lower that what I anticipated. We'll see next time (beg of July). One thing I noticed, since I started exercising more and more, my bg readings seem to be little bit higher but I suspect this is due to larger portion sizes to cover the calorie deficit. I do not restrict my calorie intake as much as I used to couple of months ago as I already reached my target weight. It may be that my HbA1c result in July will be slightly higher, current prediction is 5.4-5.5.
