How long have you been diagnosed type2

I was diagnosed with a reading of 110 in January 2023. I had a blood test a couple of weeks ago and I am now 38.
I don't eat anywhere near as much as I used to and am very careful not to have many carbs evey day and exercise as much as I can.

Unfortunately I had already damaged my eyesight and have had to have two lots of laser surgery on my left eye. I'm very concerned that when I go for my next checkup that they'll say I'll need more.

2006 but went into remission for years and years so after a while I ignored it. Eventually got round to getting tests and Hba1c 129 !!!!!!!!
Now on 1 Metformin tablet and 2 insulin types Trujeo and Trurapi this was Feb 2025
Metformin had such bad effects on me I some times could not leave the house and other times have to plan my routes where toilets were it was that bad, hence the 1 tablet a day

My eye screening is today 29/7/2025 I am worried about what my results could be

I had high blood glucose flagged in a test about a decade before diagnosis, but that was dealt with by not repeating the test rather than any sort of follow up.
When finally informed in 2016 I dealt with it by low carbing, and lost a lot of inches off my waist and now I'm having to prompt the clinic to do a blood test as they seem to have lost my diagnosis of type 2 in the mists of time. Luckily I seem to be surviving unscathed.

It was around 20 years ago I was first was diagnosed and it was all diet and exercise control then ( I was superfit) Because I an old and so high it is insulin and metformin

2005. But that was only the diagnosis of T2. I had been having symptoms since 1970 - just after the birth of my 2nd son (both sons around the 10 lb mark), so possibly gestational diabetes which was never detected and never went away. Several GPs poo-pooed my symptoms and some even told me that I was a hypochondriac. Eventually in 2005, having read an article about T2, I took a urine sample to a locum GP and asked him "Am I diabetic?" He tested it and confirmed my self-diagnosis.

No HBa1c taken at that time but a fingerprick test gave a reading of 25. Metformin was prescribed and I have been on that, off and on, ever since. After a while, I was referred to the local hospital diabetes clinic where they found HBa1c of 68. Problems with Metformin led to a colonoscopy and to the hospital insisting that, "just for the couple of days in hospital", I had to be put onto an insulin pump. It wasn't just for a couple of days. After the procedure (during which the surgeon found and removed 2 malignant polyps) I was told that I couldn't come off the insulin. That was in 2007. That's when I started putting weight on and size 12 grew into size 26. I didn't know anything about other potential treatments and, in fact, the dietician told me that I would never be able to lose weight once on insulin.

Eventually I found this website and, after a while, started lchf. No agreement from the local medics on that, so I was on my own - apart from you guys on this forum. It worked for a while and, in fact my recent HBa1c was 42, but my weight hasn't stayed down. It did start to drop, but then it started to go up again and I am close to 19stone now, and gross! Bg is still reasonable most of the time though (Libre sensor keeps me informed) but lots of internal issues have led to an odd diet and the whole digestive system is in some kind of trouble. I have been referred, by the medical consultant at the hospital (liver problems) for Mounjaro treatment. It will be a few months down the line before anything is done about it, so that gives me time to think about it. I'm not keen.

Diagnosed in 2008.
Still on pills, but slowly getting less able to cope with carbohydrates.

Diagnosed 8 years ago with an HbA1c of 70, I got it down to non diabetic levels in four months with low carb diet and Metformin initially. I have kept it in the 30s ever since. Currently I continue to eat low carb less than 40g carbs per day plus a half dose of Rybelsus.

HbA1c in April this year was 113, haven't had results yet from one taken 2 weeks ago but BG readings suggest it's under 80 by now as I rarely go above 12 any more.

I would say I'm attempting to manage it but it's not under control if that makes sense. I seem to have an unusual though not unique set of additional complications including a very generous liver so not sure "control" will ever be achievable for me.

So I was diagnosed in August 2021, just as a precaution my neurologist from the myasthenia gravis clinic sent me to the diabetic clinic soon after I had my sternotomy to have my thymus removed. I guess she though my steroid treatment might give me high BG, but diabetes was never on my real to do list till December 2024, when I scored 103A1c. Now at A1c of 36 I wonder what it is all about.
