How long until I see changes?

I am pre-diabetic. Fasting blood sugar 6.1. And I often get spikes after eating of over 10.
Started low carb diet and implementing some tips like starting the meal with fibre and drinking diluted vinegar before eating (as per the Glucose Goddess book). My question is how long did it take you to notice an improvement in your readings? I’m a mostly healthy 43 yr old female and have just started wearing a glucose monitor.
 
That fasting BS is good. A low-carb diet should show improvements with a week or so particularly if you have been overweight as any insulin resistance will go down

That’s reassuring, thanks. I’ll see how I go :) Having to resist the Easter eggs…!

You won't thank yourself now but you've been proactive and actually bought a glucose meter & found your dysfunction early.
Remember, a 3rd of people are pre-diabetic & 90% don't even know it.

In a weird way, you're horrible discovery could turn into winning the lottery of life, it's now your choice.It's a choice many of us here would be envious of.

Turn it around NOW through researching low carb & added exercise. You will be an inspiration to many I'm sure

Thank you, that’s such a kind and motivating message. I’ve always had symptoms of BS hypos and hypers so I thought I’d look into it as it was starting to affect my quality of life (waking with a hypo in the night, brain fog, dizziness, always hungry etc). According to the monitor my levels are pre diabetic so hoping the diet / exercise changes will make a difference. Thanks again

One of the great challenges I found was to" eat and test" different amounts of the macronutrients until you find what amounts you can /cannot tolerate. This takes time, a lot of time. Low carbs [ ca 20 grams/day] is a very good starting point, then experiment with different amounts/types of protein and adjust fat levels to your energy requirements. Recently I had some spikes of around 10, which sent me scurrying back to 20 grams carbs/day. The situation was very quickly resolved. I wish you all the best on your journey.
 
Newly diagnosed last week when my blood sugar was tested at 20.1! After 10 days on meds and cutting out some foods the best that I get when i wake up is 11.3. Heading in the right direction but seems to be awfully slow.
 
It's no time at all in health terms. Your body is having to adjust to so much. The fact that it IS adjusting, and your BG is moving in the right direction - almost halved in 10 days! shows how well you are doing.
 
@MrsKateT - don't be too impatient.

If you are prediabetic, the changes you might see are likely to be less seismic than someone whose A1c is/was sky high. It is also worth noting our bodies are excellent at regulating how it runs. It likes to run to patterns and routines. Doing that can help our bodies be prepared for what's coming next.

So, what I think I'm saying is that your body will try very hard to hang onto it's "old way" of operating, but once it starts to "give in" to the new regime you will see changes.

Some people notice blood sugar drops, some see weight loss, some just feel better, and some don't feel different at all, as all the magic is happening on the inside.

What type were you diagnosed with, and what meds are you on please @Chris Lawson ?
Both can make huge differences, as can which foods you have left in.

You can start up your own personal thread if you wish. No question too daft or strange in this forum. We've all been there
