Type ones, (not being rude, just because T1 don't have to stick to low carbs as much as T2) how many g of carb roughly do you eat in a day?

I want to lose weight and I want to reduce insulin too, the only way how is to reduce carbs.

I think that because when I was diagnosed I was told that I had to eat lots of carbs with every meal and snacks.
I've had 17 years of eating like this and sure enough, every meal I eat has at least 40g of carbs in it.

How many grams does everyone else have?

How many should we have?

And what alternatives are there to potatoes?

Thanks

Rude people !
I'm approx 140-150g per day. How many should you have ? No answer to that. You should reduce to a comfortable level you can sustain long term as it's not a diet, it's a lifestyle. There are no alternatives to potato but I tolerate sweet potato better and I have carrot & swede mash which is awesome. I honestly think it's better than mashed potato. As for a roast potato, I've not found an alternative so I just limit them. Good luck Indiana :)

Thank you, I much prefer sweet potatoes to white ones, are they lower in carb do you think?
If I make small changes to start with maybe it'll be easier to sustain.
I do want to change my life style and eat better but I don't know what to choose!

I was on Weight Watchers, I've tried Slimming World, I was thinking about the 5-2 but reading up on it I don't think it's for me so now I'm thinking about LCHF but what exactly is low carb? And what do you swap your carbs for?

:( I'm so confused!

I now eat around 180g a day, sometimes a little awful more on a weekend and on a special occasions. To lose weight you have to reduce the calories in your diet, if you burn more than you consume the weight will begin to fall off, that is why Slimming World and Weight Watchers diets are so successful.

As for a potatoes, like Mo I love sweet potatoes and do eat these occasionally but in the main I like my potatoes, there is a potato substitute that some low-carbers use called Celeriac, to be honest I've tried it and it tastes awful but I suppose it's an acquired taste so it's worth exploring and sampling for yourself.

What do you eat for meals to get that amount of carb?

I get most of my carbs from vegetables

Breakfast is usually Yogurt and Nuts (5g carbs)
Lunch usually scrambled eggs and salad (3-5g carbs)
Dinner might be Chicken/Fish/Meat with cauliflower/cabbage/broccoli (usually up to 15g carbs)
Snacks are nuts or cheese or sometimes 90% chocolate

I tend to eat 120-240 a day, depending on what I have. Occasionally quite a bit more. In general if you're trying to lose weight, you should avoid eating foods which are high in fat AND carbs.

Interesting replies!

What if I tried to just reduce my carbs to one or two meals a day?

That would cut down calories and carbs then wouldn't it?

Give it a try, it's what works for the individual and experience tells us all that there's no one diet that suits us all :)

I started by just cutting my starchy carbs from my evening meal to see how I'd get on.

I just filled up with extra vegetables. You can make a good mash substitute with cauliflower.

I'll have to have a go.
It's difficult living in a household where everyone eats different things!
