How much damage does one bad day do?

It is my birthday tomorrow and I know I will be bad. I haven't got a monitor yet and have my training course at the end of the month but I have been trying to be good giving all the conflicting information. Will one bad day do damage? Thanks

All depends on your self-control on other days. Why not make your bad day an annual event on your birthday? :D

Other days have been pretty good. I do tend to have a little chocolate most days to be honest but only a small bit.

Just one square of choc is fine as a treat. If you go for an 80% chocolate like Green & Black's you are allowed 2 squares!

The Aldi one sounds great - v. popular among diabetics. After a year on 80%, you should find Cadbury's horribly sweet and bland by your next birthday. Have a good one tomorrow.

Thanks so much. We are going to the dom after a big lunch with the parents. I am making the veggies and potatoes which I don't care for much anyway but there will be cake and wine and then strawberries in chocolate after the dom. I will be good then until christmas.

There is a growing growing train of thought tht cocoa itself is benficial in evening out blood sugar. Why and how is not clear. It seems a small amount of cocoa seems to be a good thing, The problem is the sugar and fats. So, a small amount of 80 - 90% dark choccy is probably not thhe worst thing in the world. The question is 'what is a small amount?', and the only way you;ll know is by monitoring yourself. I often have a couple of bits before bed., but it does tend to push my morning blood sugar up by about 0.5 m/mol. Good luck woth the rave anyway

One bad day among many good days will do less damage than many mediocre days. (OK, it depends on HOW bad, and how many days is "many", but as a general rule it's true.)

Enjoy your day, and take the opportunity to forget about diabetes for a while! Don't eat till you're sick, but do what you enjoy.

When you get a meter you can re-evaluate and decide how often you can afford to do this. But a once-off will not do much damage. Of course there is always a risk, but you have to balance that with your quality of life!

For one day.. How much difference?

Negligible... Enjoy the day!!!

Its longed term that has worries.. Not 1 day!!
Xx

I don't agree with everything that the dietician suggests I should or shouldn't eat but she did say that the cocoa in chocolate has good fat that helps to lower choesterol along with a small amount of alcohol each day is good for the heart.

one day wont kill you and after all if u cant be bad on ur birthday when can you !! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOUUUUUUUUUUU X:)

you could do what I do, adn go for the 100% cocoa chocolate. Even the 80% stuff seems sickly nowadays :yuck:

In germany I get one from Aldi that is 80% with little bits of orange in it and it is delish. Well nothing beats cadburys but at least it is something.

My idea of being bad dietwise in Hamburg is to go to the Hummerstand in the Hanseviertel and have their Iranian Kaviar at 199 euro for 100g.

I've never been that bad but if I ever were to be, I bet my BGs would be top fit.

Mind you, the lobster is rather more reasonably priced if you can eat out on expenses.

Hamburg is one the the easiest places for a type 2 diabetic to eat out. What were you thinking of doing when you say 'bad day'?

It's if one bad day becomes two then three ... which is the problem. One bad day will do you negligible damage if it's very rare imo
