How old were you when you first diagnosed with type 1?? And how long do you have it??

I thought that should be a great idea to share our experiences;)

I got diagnosed by 21 and have it now for 6 weeks, but my doc told me he never had a patient that handled it so well:D
58 had it for just over a year now, It was surreal when the Dr told me I had "juvenile diabetes" guess I am a late developer!!

Wow!! Didn't know you can get it by such an age:confused:

You can get it at any age. Dr Irl Hirsch a well known diabetes specialist and researcher says
" The incidence of type 1 diabetes is doubling roughly every 2 decades in developed nations. The rising population of U.S. adults with type 1 diabetes has two sources: a steady increase in patients with new-onset type 1 disease arising in their 30s, 40s, and beyond, and improved longevity of patients with childhood-onset type 1 diabetes."

58 is just a stripling. Dr Hirsch says the oldest that has been diagnosed in his clinic was 92.

My first anniversary with type1 is coming up on April 16. I was 52 years old at the time.

I was 24 when I was diagnosed in November 1992. 21 years later my control still isn't brilliant with regular hypos coupled with hypo unawareness.
