I don't care WHAT happens...

Oh!! So excited...The first egg has hatched and a pretty little [if a bit slimy] chick is cheeping away. 2 more are doing their best tapping at their shells so that means 50% success so not bad for first go with 'not sure if fertile' eggs!!

So happy

Even more exciting now as two more have hatched [just as I was giving up!] so that is 4 out of seven eggs [one of which died which was sad]
feel like a new mum!!!

Great news susan
Awww bless them - are the chicks cheeping and chirpy ?
What's next ? - you have to do with the chicks , new 'mummy' :D

Anna.

They are very chipy and fluffy. We have a brooder they need to go in today with food and water, Then as they grow and need less warmth they move on to bigger things!!!

Hope I am up to the job

Sorry cannot manage the photo loading

They are growing rapidly and a few feathers staring. They have lots of cuddles and I have had loads of visits from people in the village who want to see them and give them a cuddle which has been lovely for me as well!!

got some more eggs in so next month they may have some brothers and sisters. [no I really know what they mean by 'don't count your chickens before they hatch' !!

Don't think you can tell the sex until they mature [big combs and things]
As for taste I do not know as we only will eat the boys!!!
After all the ladies are useful...they lay eggs!!!

Sorry to all the men folk if this makes you cring!!!! :)

Cool - are they fluffy yellow chicks or speckled chicks ?
What are you going to do with them all ?
How old do they have to be - when lay an egg ?

Sorry for all the questions susan, am just curious and fascinated !

Anna. :)

Ha! Patch is back - I was hoping he'd forgotten all about this and us girls could get someone to close down the thread while he wasn't looking! :D

I stayed in a hotel in Germany over easter once and they built a pen in the foyer which they filled with chicks and baby bunnies. They are both cute and comical. My young daughter was enthralled.

I had fun cleaning them out this morning as they have started getting proper wings and feathers and discovered that by flapping hard they could escape. Quick flurry around the front room to catch them all. Only 4 and still can't manage them
[and I was hoping the next clutch would all hatch...too late to take some away :) ]

The grandchildren love them. 2 will hold them but the youngest just likes looking

Time to get this thread back on track:
