My blood sugars arent coming down nor am i getting any sleep i know no sleep isnt good for my health but my gp wont give me any pills for that so i just lay in bed till my alarm goes off. Its definitely effecting me. Especially at work with no sleep, mirtazapine didn't help me at all. I have told myself if my sleep dont come back i wont have good control with my diabetes. I have had vitamin D checked and b12 i don't know anymore all i know is i will probably be laying in bed tonight.

Honestly i have spent a lot of money on pills and teas which don't seem to work- my friend told me high blood sugar will make him tired whereas im wide awake all night, i hate asking my gp for help for sleep because she will say she cant give me nothing for it.

I have tried music and i have tried cbd and magnesium. I don't sleep for 4 days and then i usually fall asleep for a few hours on my day off but i still feel tired.

Ahh i dont know

Hi and welcome. I assume you have glucose meter and that is showing high blood sugar? Are you on any diabetes meds and what was your last HBa1C result? Are you having a low-carb diet to help control your blood sugar? I would avoid any 'alternative' medication for diabetes as they usually don't work. Keep the carbs down and have fats and proteins to balance. Ask the GP for suitable diabetes medication if needed.

Have you tried mindfulness or hypnosis?

Whilst not specifically for sleep, I used hypnosis to deal with an extremely stressful situation, but as a byproduct, I found myself sleeping extremely well.

Have your clinic/doctor/nurse advised you on how to adjust your insulin? As a T1 (on insulin by default) if I'm sick or stressed I can increase my insulin doses until my levels normalise and I feel better, and reduce them back down again when I recover. I strongly urge you to get advice on controlling your bgs. Normalising them may well help your sleep situation.

I too am a fellow insomniac. Some days I just don’t go to bed. Others it’s snatched hours here or there. I have researched that it’s a bit of a viscous circle. High bloods can cause insomnia and insomnia can raise bloods. You get the picture lol. Also there’s a link with metformin causing poor sleep patterns. I’ve seen this on several websites. When I’ve asked about it in the past the doctor said the benefits of taking metformin out way the reasons for not taking it. I’ve suffered with insomnia for the best part of ten years now, so I really do sympathise with you. It’s a lonely world once everyone else is asleep. Rubbish tv, darkness, silence, boredom and frustration to name a few. Can the doctor not refer you to a sleep clinic? I never took my gps advice over that so cannot say wether it’s beneficial or not. But surely it’s worth a shot?? I was prescribed zopiclone for 10 days in order to “reset” my body clock. It did jump start it but sadly now I’ve fallen back into the same routine. I too have high bgs and they don’t seem to make me sleepy, if I do drop off straight away I literally have an hour and then ping!!!! Awake all night. I hope you can find some help. I would ring the gp I’m my non medical opinion, even if it’s just to have some resemblance of normality back in your life.....and definitely discuss your high bgs and aim to bring those down for health reasons and insomniac symptoms. You never know, that’s may be all it takes to break the chain. Best of luck. Xx

Sleep is pretty darn important for a healthy lifestyle. I’m in a battle myself, I’ve been working out so hard my muscles are so sore, and yet I’m so tired for the same reason. I also can’t sleep when I’m fasting.

I know most hospitals have sleep labs, maybe it’s worth giving that a try.

Hi there, regardless of anything else your glucose levels are obviously too high which may well be affecting your sleep. I think I would go back to square one and start with the carbs, a reset if you will. Would you mind telling us a typical days food? Of course you have to be extremely careful when on insulin and all those other glucose lowering medications and you should always consult your Doctor. Do you know your carb/insulin ratios, are you sure they are currently correct (they can change over time). Sometimes I think people set off with a rigid carb/insulin ratio and stick to it but when it's no longer working they should test their basal requirements and once that is ok, adjust their bolus (test, test, test and be mindful of hypo's). Apologies if you have done all of this but if not it's worth a try as trying to find ways to sleep might prove useless if it is your glucose levels preventing it. Also, I note you are type 2 and I am wondering whether you are producing much of your own insulin or whether you know what the issue is with insulin resistance for example? Others are experts on this but I think if I was type 2 and producing normal amounts of insulin I would want to know exactly why I had been put on yet more insulin (bearing in mind everybody's requirements are different). x

It is, and I’ve been awake for most of it hahahaha. But seriously, having an appointment set in the near future is better than none at all. It’s a positive step in the right direction. I’m hoping when I get my bgs in a better range I will have longer periods of sleep and form a routine. I think you should discuss this with your gp too as it’s probably part of the problem. I will keep an eye out for you on here and hope you make improvements soon. Sweet dreams

Hi- another person who finds sleep problematic. I find the higher my blood sugar levels are the harder it is to sleep. I'm a type 2 on no medication so no help but considerable sympathy. I really envy those who can sleep with no difficulty.

Good luck.

Hi @UsmanMo96 how long is it since you were diagnosed as Type 2? You’re taking what seems to me to be quite a lot of insulin.
I wonder if it’s time to see a diabetes specialist for help: your lack of sleep may not be helping your blood sugar control, but it could also be that your diabetes management needs tweaking.
I’m T1, so my understanding of all the varied problems of a T2 is limited. I do know, though, that high blood sugars can make a person feel bad and can upset the way the body behaves.
Where are you? Is it easy for you to find a diabetes specialist?

I do see diabetes specialist- in Windsor

Hi @UsmanMo96

are you still eating low carb, as you were during your last thread?

in your last thread you mentioned insulin resistance and wasn’t your insulin going to be adjusted? Did your specialist decide to keep you on fixed doses?

maybe requesting an appt to the nearest sleep clinic is the way to go.
