Interesting Blood Sugar Readings 28 Year Old Vegan

I have bored most people by re-iterating that I always like to here what persons in other protocols views are compared to mine. I would like to give the chap in the below credit, as his tests appear truthful. Whilst his tests are an N of 1, some of these are consistent with views I have about certain foods. At 28 he appears quite insulin sensitive, but I would be concerned about some of the results, and would wonder how his body would react in 10, 15, 20, 25 years on the same bolus (or anyone for that matter).

This guy is not a diabetic, right? so I would expect his blood sugar levels to be on a even keel most of the time, even after eating high carbs. I am not sure what, if anything, this video tells us.
 
Two things I got out of it was, he waffles on relentlessly and doesn't seem to know what he is doing or what is going on. So, I guess that's three things.Some of the readings he was getting are a bit alarming to me.
 
Some somewhat strange results. As always, blood glucose only tells half the story. Who knows what his insulin profile looks like. I suspect a little wayward. Come back in twenty years to find out.

There's no consistency to how he tested anyway. And his choices of foods to show results for was I think ridiculous. Who eats 5 bananas at once? (Apart from this guy). :D

As you mentioned in regards to insulin profile, the real story is in the pancreas and that's not being told.
 
I’d be interested to know if he retested the 204mg/dl reading to rule out a rouge measurement. That’s ~11mmol/L which is most certainly not normal, irrespective of what he’d eaten. He’s still young but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if there’s some metabolic dysfunction waiting in his future. I diet made of glucose will do that...
 
Agree with the comments above. He clearly doesn’t understand what he’s doing and I didn’t appreciate the somewhat snidey comment about Dr Shawn Baker.

It seems all his readings were one test result and no second result to validate it, but when you look at what he was eating, is it really a surprise? He tested and you watched the meter count down and show the result, so I'm reasonably sure that was what he went by... one result.

I don't think he needs to wait 20yrs to see how things are progressing. :D
 
More importantly that diet makes me weep. I am so glad diabetes opened my eyes to proper food drowned in glorious tasty fat. In retrospect I was never a bird or a rabbit, so I’m not entirely sure why I ate like one.

In fairness, Shawn Baker does by all accounts run quite high on glucose? Sure I read he has a fairly elevated HbA1c. Regardless though, I know who my money would go on for living the longest :D

I think we ate like that because we didn't know any better. We were told fat is bad for you and you'll die of a heart attack if you eat it. Eat your healthy grains, rice and pasta.... cereals. Deceived is probably a polite term for it. I prefer lied to.
 
Did you read the comments too? I clicked to watch it on YouTube, and there was so much misinformation and just bad advice on the comments to the video. Of course a non diabetic type 2 is going to be ok on this diet. For a while..................

Lots of people have a bad diet, or a high carb diet and are just fine. I have no issue with personal food choices. But for a type 2 or pre-type 2 that diet going to kill them, pure and simple. If you are not type 2 and do not have the trigger mechanism in your body - great. But we dont know yet what the trigger is, or who is at risk.

This video is like someone saying my kidneys are fine, so this proves that a very high protein diet for someone with kidney disease is fine.

I believe it shows that high glyceamic foods raise blood sugar in younger persons in my opinion far to high. I never see 7's let alone 9's and 11's.
 
This gent always knocks carnivore based diets. I liked the fact that he went back to the banana and rather than excepting a minimal rise, he sort the truth. I can't provide links off the top of my head, but each time multiple bananas are tested, I have seen numbers over 9 at peak.

His meals which went over 7, I wonder what that would do to me, yet this type of meal is what Eat Lancet et all would have me eat; and I don't recall seeing a potato insight.

Look at the effect of the pizza on the day and the 6.1 fbg the next day; again his first fbg was 3.8, This for me is a massive red flag. I would love to see thousands of similar n of 1's. I know science would reject this method, but I see the fbg, hba1c's etc of tons of people on this site, so I think this type of epidemiology which is daily, weekly, monthly and yearly, is much more powerful than 2 questionnaires set several years apart.

I think this is where wearable blood glucose monitors will demonstrate to people what they should be eating once they get cheaper and more accurate. If your phone could provide a graph of the effects of food on your blood what a telling picture that would paint. Maybe in a few years when CGM's are a lot cheaper we'll all have implants to monitor such things...

Bananas are lethal to me in increasing my bgl, fair enough I ate a lot of them in short period of time to blow my hba1c out from 53 to 47.5 then to 58.4 over six months. This is when my GP put me on Metformin and I swore off bananas for life.

I will post that graph "again", I wish I had kept the earlier hba1c results before the 53 one.

I think while he did ramble, it was amusing to watch. I remember those first finger sticks and not getting enough blood, although I did read the instructions first lol. But I remember I had gotten a meter before I was ever a diabetic (type 1) because I knew type 1 was in my family and I remember eating different food and experimenting. I also remember blueberries are said to help normalize blood sugar and sure enough I could eat a bowlful and my sugars would not go up.

I just think you are missing the point of this video, this was so he and any person could see what different foods did to his blood sugar. Like a high calorie meal, eating a full meal late at night, eating a huge amount of sugar etc. It was never saying this is what you should eat or that 5 bananas at once are good for you to eat..

And yes I am a vegan and there is plenty of research to show whole grains, even just a recent study came out that you live longer, it promotes good gut bacteria, high fat diets cut down on life span, 8 veggie servings a day are better for you etc............while low carb is definitely easier to control blood sugars in a diabetic and that is a really good thing, it isn't the only diet that you can follow. My A1C is usually 6.4% and right now running around 6.2%, I am happy with that, I do not low carb, I do not restrict what I eat, if I want (whole grain) bread or pasta I eat it. Keeping in mind I am a strict vegan and generally that means healthy food.

I think you are right he was conducting an experiment on how different foods affected his BG levels he was not saying it was how people should be eating.
