Introduce Yourself: Answer Some Personal Questions

Hi, My name is Richard, known to my children as Jimbob. I’m male 62 years of ageand live in Somerset UK. I am a member of the Baptist church, but have not been able to attend for some months. I’m married with five children (the last being twins) 4 work within the NHS or care industry, or wanting to move into it with the appropriate qualifications. The other just finishing her final year at Art Collage.
I don’t have any pets, but have had them in the past; our last being a lab who is till sadly missed. I love music and would find life very dull without it; Show and musical being my favourite. I don’t watch a great deal of TV, preferring to be at my computer or building wooden model ships.
I have been regarded as diabetic for many years, thought to be steroid induced, just kept an eye on what I eat and began using a meter to check blood sugars about three years ago, then placed on Injection insulin six months ago; I was not offer tablets as it was thought, due to having a short bowel and stoma, I would not be able to absorb enough of the drug.
I look forward to contributing whatever I can to the site, plus gaining as much knowledge as possible.
Can anyone tell me what HbA1c means, I don’t recall my diabetic nurse or GP ever referring to it.

I live with positivity and the daily challenge to see the good (or god) in others. I occasionally go to church, just to see if he notices, so far, no burning bush. If God wrote reports he'd say about me: lacks conviction. If I wrote a report about God I'd say: Needs to listen in class.

Comparative to most of the world, yes, we live in a developed nation, have two full time jobs and can afford to run a heap of junk with four wheels. I earn below average income in reality but like my job a lot.

I work for the probation service, receiving court results and making sure the right people know.

I have Lvl 3 business administration and Lvl 3 Counselling, I prefer the latter, I went to uni for 2 years, studying computer science, abstract stuff, I liked it, but preferred people to computers. Waiting to complete my counselling degree, three of my kids are in uni/about to go so I'll have to wait till one leaves to afford it.

- What do you like most about yourself?
that I'm still going, moving forward, learning, trying, creating and haven't completely turned into a couch potato despite my love of Steve Wilko!

- What do you like least about yourself?
I tend to turn everything into a positive, which can sometimes be counter-productive, sometimes you have to accept something, warts and all, for what it is. Oh, and an extremely un-cooperative body.

I am a newbe diabetic having just had my pancreas and spleen removed due to a condition called IPMN. I am a real technophobe so am probably already doing the wrong thing regarding interacting with the site. The suggested questions are worse than internet dating so I wont bore you by trying to tell you all about me (but if there are any really attractive, wealthy 50-something men out there ..........)
I am only 4 months post-op and am finally recovering from the surgery bit and the diabetes bit is not too bad. I am using lantus and novorapid, have done the Dafne and trying desperately to accurately count carbs! Still have high and low BS swings but hoping it will all pan out.
Anyway my cat is called Leo.
Look forward to making some friends and normalising!!!
Would really love to hear from anyone else who has had the same experience as me (IPMN)

Hello everyone! I know I'm meant to be answering those questions but honestly felt like you would get to know me better if I just babbled on for a bit instead I'm a 21 year old T1 diabetic, Finnish by birth but currently living in Scotland: my true home! The reason I've sought out diabetes forums like this is because I'm finally starting to become more serious about keeping my diabetes in control, and improving my HbA1cs to what I KNOW they can be!!! And I foresee that I'll need some support and shoulders to cry on when things don't exactly go my way...

Some more about me: I'm an extremely expressive person and therefore you might find a few extra (!) and smilies in my posts because they just help me express what I'm feeling. I'm currently in my last year of a Psychology degree, am a huge Harry Potter and LotR nut, a dog lover, and hoping to become a clinical psychologist after I graduate!

Hi,
my name is Ray Cartwright. I'm retired and lived in France for 9 years. I was diagnosed a diabetic about 6 years ago. I take plevix and metaformine. Although I speak a little French I cannot understand any thing technical, like cars, police, and doctors.
The soles of my feet and tips of my toes have gone numb. Does any one out there have any advice on the treatment or cure for this symptom.

Hi - I'm new to forums but I give it a go.
I was diagnosed with Diabetes in 1993 aged 37 and even put straight onto insulin. To help with control I have been put on an insulin pump for the last 5 or so years but still HB's are hovering around 10%. After having injections in both knees of Kenalog (80mg per knee) I have experienced exceptional high bloods and my response to insulin is poor. My GP is thinking that maybe I have resistance to insulin - I am on Humalog at the moment but next week they are looking to put me back onto Novorapid and Humalog therefore having a pump holiday.
I have never been given the opportunity of animal insulin so have no comparisons to work to.
I have been a hard worker in the past without the diabetes effecting my lifestyle too badly except for nocturnal hypos - hence the pump.
With my problems now I am really interested in following a low carb regime - has anyone got any menu planners/recipe books/diets they could suggest please?
We have a farm with free range poultry, cattle, sheep, dogs etc and plenty of gardening but not enough time and energy so it is important that I get my health back so that I can manage my duties better!!
