Hi all. I have been a lurker for a while. I have had insulin dependent diabetes since the removal of my pancreas (because of tumours) some 5 years ago. I use a basal bolus, carb counting regime, and like to - almost, but not quite - micromanage to keep blood glucose around 5.5 although I am happy with anything from 4 through to about 6.5.

I use an app to record data, and it is linked through Dropbox to my phone and my tablet, and I also maintain the database in Dropbox on my pc.

Occasionally I get mightily ****** off with it all, scoff chocolate, eat ice cream and think "the hell with it all". Next day I feel way better and climb back on the merry-go-round

Hi everyone. I've just discovered this place by chance and it appears to be just what I need. I was told I had pre-diabetes about 18 months ago and have been taking metformin ever since. I am 46 and very overweight at 17st and 5'3" and female but seem to have very little luck when it comes to losing weight. I think I need to get familiar with this site so I can be given some tips and advice.

Hi I am 58, employed, fairly fit, average build , low blood pressure, active and in good health. I was told this week that my HB1AC test suggests I am prediabetic. I was not expecting that. I have been experiencing low blood sugar readings 2 to 3 hours after eating. Ie 3.2-3.8 feeling unwell when this happens. Can anyone identify with this?

I can relate to that Zell. I went to my GP because I was feeling ill and falling asleep after meals. I used to go out like a light so I thought I had low blood sugar after eating for some reason. What the GP said once my tests came back and showed I was actually pre-diabetic according to my HbA1C level, was that I was not producing enough insulin to cope with my meal, so a short time later I would release more in order to remove the glucose from my blood stream. The two amounts of insulin together were too much in total and I would become mildly hypoglycaemic which led to me feeling strange and nodding off. I don't know if the GP was dumbing down (as a lot of them seem to do) but I suppose her explanation makes sense, however I was not asked to get a monitor so I have not taken any readings to prove the low BG, so I have to take my GPs word for it as to what she thinks was going on. By the way, I've gathered from this forum that the introduce yourself section doesn't get many replies so you may want to just dive into one of the more active sections to get into the swing of things. I was going to do so myself but have been a bit busy. Happy posting :)

Hello All,

I was told last month by my doctor that I have type 2 and he packed me off with some A4 sheets to read. But over the last month I've researched the subject and I keep finding conflicting advice. My GP told me to change my high protein and high diary diet to a high carb diet. But I find on US and UK diabetes websites some advising a low carb diet.Yes to lose weight cut back on the diary and red meat but eat more carbs?

There seems to be a lot of confusion out there and within the NHS.Not sure where to turn and if I don't get my sugar level down in two more months at my next check up his talking about putting me on a series of pills.Which I'd like to avoid.
