Hi Giverny, I'm from Coventry as well! My name is Barbara and I've lived here all my life. I registered today because diabetes runs in my family (my mum and gran both went blind because of their T2 and my cousin is T1) Lately I've been feeling tired and thirsty so I got a monitor last week. My average FBG has been 8.5! I don't want to panic but I do have a lot of questions I want to ask so I thought I'd register with this forum and do a bit of homework. Hello my name is Eesheeta..I am 8 yrs old.I have recently been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.No one in m family has it...I hav some other auto immune conditions as well like hypothyroidism and Coeliac disease.I am now running on my honeymoon phase so life is a bit stress free ( insulin free ) ..but not sure for how long it will be like this.I would love to share my feelings and like to know about others recently diagnosed esp children

Newly diagnosed. Diabetic I presume type 2 as my doctor didn't say what type but did prescribe metformin500 mg 3 times a day starting week 1 with 1 tablet then week 2 2 tablets etc and told me to avoid sugar. a bit of history I had a heart attack 5 weeks ago quite a bad one my left arterial descending artery was totally blocked so the docs unblocked the artery with what they call a procedure then fitted a stent. Wasn't diagnosed in hospital with diabetes but my gp asked for bloods after I came out of hospital then told me I had diabetes and to make an appointment with diabetic nurse in the practice.my gp really hasn't given me any info at all,I found this website and did a lot of research on here,I bought myself a blood glucose machine and my first test showed 8.4 around 2 hours after a meal I tested next morning before my breakfast and got 6.4 later that day again about 2 hours after meal I tested 7.5. I am 47 years old and since my heart attack my life has changed so much that I don't even feel like the same person that I was. I was a smoker and now haven't had a ciggy since my heart attack
It's good to find this website as I find it helps to know about my condition and there seems to be lots of info here.
