Hi, my name is Carol and I am too jolly old :D 68
I was diagnosed T2 on 25 March this year with a nice high reading of 20.3 mmol/L. I am still getting use to what I can and cannot have to eat, learning what does and does not spike my B and sometimes feel frustrated that I cannot find enough recipes to have a varied diet - but I will not give up, I may fall back occasionally but it is my hope that I can eventually control it using diet and exercise alone.

My medication was changed from Gliclazide on the 1st May to 4 x 500grm Metformin. In the first three days it made me very very ill. as it was the long weekend I decided to take a chance and cut it back to 2 per day one in the morning and one with dinner. My nurse was amazed at how I had got it down so low and I told her lchf and she said keep doing what you are doing. Blood pressure has also returned to normal.
For the rest have taken the easy way and just added my answers to the questions:
- Are you male or female? Female
- Which country are you from? England
- Which city/area do you live in? Kent
- Are you religious? Nope
- Pick three words to describe your personality. An Optimist, Helpful
- Do you have any pets? A Border Collie Cross
- Microsoft or Apple? Microsoft
- Which sport(s) (if any) do you like/play? None - except Wii Tennis, Bowling, Slalom, Jogging & Cycling :)
- Do you get angry easily? Not as much as I used to ...
- Do you have any tattoos or piercings? If so, where? Nope
- List your five favourite musicians/bands.
- What would you say your favourite music genre is?
- What is your favourite flag? Yes the Yellow or Blue ones in the garden ;)
- Ever gone camping? Oh Yes
- Ever been in love? Of course
- Ever used fake tan? Yes, least said about that, soonest mended
- Which countries have you visited? Italy, France, Greece, Australia, Wales & Scotland
- Favourite city? Canterbury
- List your five favourite TV programmes. Antique Road Trip, Flog it, Bargain Hunt, New Tricks' Have I got News for You
- List your five favourite films. Independence Day, 8 Legged Freaks, I Robot, The Mummy, Fifth Element ...
- Are you wealthy? Yes, but not money wise
- Do you work? If so, as what? Retired
- List the subjects you study/have studied.
- What do you like most about yourself? Ability to turn my hand to most things
- What do you like least about yourself? Too podgy

And I intend to ... Have fun!

Hi Carol, im new here too, a few days only. still waiting on my first appointment with diabetic nurse. looks like theres some very helpful people and advice on this site.

Sheila

Hi Sheila, pleased to meet you, even if it under not such good circumstances. I have been using this site to gain information for the last two months, although have only joined today. In that time I have to say, that the folk on this forum have provided the most helpful advice and information to be found anywhere on the net.

I have had three get togethers with my diabetic nurse, . At the first meeting with the nurse on 2nd April, she told me that I should only eat carbs, and then only as much as I could hold in the centre of my hand, and buy a book which would tell me how much and how to cook them and to eat no fruit. However, I had already started researching on the net and found that a lot of people recommended low carbs and high fat cuisine. Anyway, I had already cut the carbs out and on the 7th April I had to see the Doc, and gave him a list of my BG to date, and he was amazed at how low it had become - How on earth have you done that he asked, and I replied lchf - well keep up the good work, the nurse will be just as amazed. My second visit didn't go too well, she had failed to put the results of the HbAc1 test that the diabetes lady had done on the 2nd April on the computer. So I need another one, which I am having done tomorrow. When reviewing my BG list she immediately said that the 5.8 I had a couple of day previously was a ... hypo ... I did say to her I don't think it is, and she said well everyone uses a different scale, and then when I said the 9.3 was a spike caused by having a couple of small pieces of roast parsnips, she just ignored it. I was to change my medication on the 3rd May and she wanted me to have both 1 Gliclazide tab and 4 x 500gr of Metformin. I asked if I could just have the Metformin and did it have to be so much. Upshot was when I went to get my medication she had not prepared the prescription and I had a lot of trouble with the surgery who did eventually fax it over to the pharmacy. Interestingly enough, she never gave a prescription for the Gliclazide!

I was so stupid as well regarding the four tablet. I have only ever had antibiotic tablets which you take 1 x 3 per day, so that is what I did with the Metformin, three days later I was very very ill - it was the May Bank Holiday weekend and I felt so bad I honestly didn't care if I saw another day :(. What I did do was to take two at night for two days, then only 1 on the 3rd evening, and ever since I have been taking 1 after breakfast and one after dinner and everything is just fine and dandy and when I saw her this week and explained everything, she was fantastic about it all. My faith has been restored. :D. She is really pleased to see how well both my BG is and my Blood Pressure which is now down where it should be.

I wish you good health, Sheila, and do let me know how you get on both with the nurse and the new way of life, we are both having to learn how to deal with ... kind regards ... Carol :)

Hi Sheila, was a bit hairy, but hopefully I learned something, not sure what as yet, but doubtless I will find out in time ;). I felt good on the Gliclazide, but after I had the last one, it occurred to me that my appetite was increasing and my weight had gone up by 2lbs. Niot a lot, but it had taken a while to get it down. Shortly after starting the Metformin, it had returned to what it was 10st 12 1/4lbs, possibly more to do with the rather unpleasant side effects I experienced. However, and even with some heavy exercise this week, it appears I first put on 2lbs, and then today lost 1lb which has taken me back to where I was. I didn't do any exercises yesterday because I was on the knitting machine and 480 plus rows is a lot of body work :).

Good to know you've got your list already - I took one, and then forgot to look at it - typical ... Carol :D

Hello Falam and welcome. May I ask what the name of these 4 herbs are and how you have administered them, such as raw; a herbal tea; an infusion, etc, and with what frequency and over what time frame, weeks months etc.. I am sure there will many here who will be as interested in your reply and I am.
