HI I'm type 1 diabetic, was diagnosed with diabetes in 1998 I've been living with this condition for 24 years. I have no complications as of yet thank god, I am on novo rapid and levimer. I'm very much overweight have been going to gym eating less and nothing seems to be working I'm on here to help other people with their diabetes and hopefully get some advice on weight loss and see if any type 1 diabetics have or have had a prescribed medication from their GP that can help with weight loss.
Hi Virgogal,
Welcome! Sounds great that you've had no complications! I hear you on the weight issue. I'm also T1D (over 30 years). I started having an increase in my weight about 10 years ago (despite no change in diet), and it was really frustrating.

So I decided to go low carb and also do a shorter eating window (intermittent fasting). It worked. I stopped the increase in weight, and in about 2 weeks I saw a reduction in my weight, with clothes fitting well again. As long as I keep doing it, I keep getting good results (good weight, no increases.) It's been my lifestyle since then.

Maybe give it a try? (Either intermittent fasting or low carb or both.) In any case, don't give up hope! This is fixable.

P.S. I have also watched my thyroid function. Sometimes, a low thyroid condition can cause weight gain. I have long used a small dose of T3 hormone to control it.

Hoping to get a bit of advice. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 30 years ago and am now 63. Originally I was diet controlled but had to start metformin to keep things under control. I was on metformin till last year when I was told I could come off it and go back to being diet controlled which was brilliant news. A couple of months ago my hba1c was coming back slightly raised but not enough to be a concerned. 2 weeks ago I was asked to do some finger prick testing at home as my hba1c was still increasing. My BSL’s were coming back around 12 to 13 but I also had them coming in low at around 3.9. The diabetic nurse now thinks I’m possibly type 1. I have to go for a “special” blood test to test my antibodies and see what’s happening. Anyway the advice I’m asking is how much of a game changer is this if it does come back type 1. I don’t drink, don’t smoke and my diet is good. I’m actually quite scared at the moment as there was a lot of “umming “ and “ahhhing” from the diabetes nurse.
Hi there,
See if you can get a "C-Peptide" test. This would tell you how much insulin function you have in your pancreas, which can help determine if you are T1D. The antibodies are nice, but not definitive. A T1D like me would have close to 0% on a C-Peptide, whereas a T2D or non-diabetic would be between 1 and 4. Hope that helps you.

Hi everyone.
I am 74 years old, and have lived with T1 diabetes for 51 years. I have experienced several changes over the years: going from glass syringes and urine sugar testing, to plastic disposable syringes and prick a thumb testing, through Daphe education to a pump, and new with FreeStyle Libre blood testing. I love the pump. The Libre system is a mess. I have thin arms, and the units seem to get messed up on application. I have now got a phone reader. I have found that to be a loop pop pain. I stupidly linked it to my computer, and all seemed fine, until... I travel a lot, and spend a lot of time away. I am currently in Russia. I needed to change the time on the reader, but that was a real struggle. I had to unlink my reader, and set it up as solo. Lost all my readings. I have tried contact with Abbott, but I found the guy unhelpful and rather offhand. Incidentally, I am a senior IT developer, or was until I retired. I was talking with a retired physicist at the Nuclear research unit where I am, and he has encouraged me to go into Python with the AI extensions.
I have worked in the US, and in the Netherlands. I have spent a lot of time in Spain and South America, so I am fairly fluent in Spanish. I am learning Russian, and starting to understand TV talk shows.

Hi my name is Jossy. I am T2 diabetic. I have had trouble controlling my sugars for years. Plus, I am sedentary here at work as a psychologist.
Lately, my feet have been stinging and burning, which forced me to open my eyes, and start taking better care of myself. I put myself on a strict calorie/carb diet to lose 50 lbs. I know it's the carbs, which make my sugar go up, but I chose to stick to a low cal diet to lose the weight + no sugar.
I have NEVER been on a low calorie diet... I eat no more than 750 calories per day. I love it. It's easy. It's the walking and exercising that is a tough daily habit to get into. But I am trying. Thank you to all of you for this community.

I have a just purchased a CGM freestyle sensor ….. does anyone know the normal levels I should set this for people without diabetes as that is my aim as currently prediabetic
I have the Libre 3 and it comes pre set up for safe and danger levels. If you are pre than aim to stay at the bottom of the safe levels i guess. Also remember the Libres gives data in mg/dl, most on here talk about mmol, so divide the Libre number by 18 to get the mmol figure. If it is any help 81 to 99 on the Libre is what i am staying between and I am prediabetic and trying to lose some weight.

Hi, I'm new on here, not fast at all with this tech stuff but here goes: I have type 2 diabetes and on 2 x 500mg Metformin twice daily, and I have almost lost all of the feeling in my feet, despite losing three and a half stone since February this year. Last year in May I had a possible stroke and spent 9 weeks on a stroke ward and had to move home to a ground floor flat and am still physically disabled, despite being told it was not a stroke, so I am still waiting to hear the outcome from a second opinion as I was passed to Neurology and diagnosed with FND after a 10 minute examination over a year after the illness hit me. I have also fought mental health issues for 40 years and diagnosed for 30 years with PTSD following major traumas whilst working in the police and security in London and whilst I am not too bad today, it can and does bite back quite regularly just to make life that little more of a challenge on top of everything else we all have to deal with. Anyway here goes with the questions, if anyone wants to know more, please do ask, I have nothing to hide from anyone.
