Hi, I’m Lorraine, 62, diagnosed 3 years ago with type 1. I currently use 8unit of Novorapid before my evening meal and 8 units of Levimir at bedtime.
I generally dog walk 3-4 miles a day and go to aqua aerobics 4 times a week and the rest of the day I’m quite active.
I moved to Scotland from England in April and 8 months later I’m still waiting for an appointment with the local diabetic specialist/department.
Since moving to this beautiful country with fantastic people, my stress levels have disappeared and have been replaced with “happy” hormones which I think have contributed to my blood sugars going down to 6.2. X

I have always w wanted to live in Scotland for time. I was an English major in college and it was my first luscious discovery of the English language as written a word. Written that is out of the UK and Scotland and Ireland. I am an old-school English student, loving Shakespeare and Yeats above all else, and fond of the Browning's.

One of the reasons I am so reluctant to lay down the mantle and I know is that remaining on my bucket list is the desire to see England Scotland and Ireland for the first time. I do not believe that I am sexist in my approach to literature. I loved Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and Elizabeth Barrett browning poems and Sylvia Plath and a host of other English female writers. But when I was coming up to the English department at the University of Virginia, they were not a lot of female writers, but I knowledge their work, and I hope that it is different now. Certainly there have been some very great poets, female poets, in the past 40 years. I was too busy surviving to pay much attention.

Have you asked her how she would like to be supported?

I’m interested in dietary and emotional support to keep her as healthy as possible.

Type 1 is not treated by diet, it's treated by matching your insulin to what you eat.
Be very alert when reading about diabetes, T1 and T2 are completely different conditions so what people post about T2 does not apply to your partner.

I've been type 1 for 32 years in 5 days time. I have had diabetic retinopathy laser treatment and possibly need more in the future. I gave up smoking around 18months ago, after around 24 years, and in that time I had a very bad patch with my depression. I started to eat my feelings and ended up putting on a lot of weight. I'm trying to lose it, any tips please throw them my way. I'm at a point in my life where in happier than I've ever been and I want to make the most of it and work on my health and lifestyle
