- Do you work? If so, as what? Yes. I am Company Secretary and formerly the accountant for a group of companies I have worked for since 1983. I am about to retire on 31st December 2012. I am Chair of Governors of a nursery & infant school and fill my time with that and other unpaid activities too. I have 2 grown daughters, 7 grandchildren, the oldest being 21 and the youngest 1 and also 2 great-grandchildren, the oldest being 4 and the youngest 1.
I was diagnosed Type 1 diabetic (then known as chronic) in February 1969 - my, how things have improved over the years! I have a little neuropathy in my toes and retinopathy in one eye - only one leakage after all these years but unfortunately too close to the centre of vision to allow further laser treatment and steroid injections are no longer having any effect but it's holding at the moment and I'm very well looked after.
I get frustrated with my diabetes occasionally and often say that I would just like one day off from blood tests and injections but having the illness hasn't stopped me from doing anything yet and I have nothing to complain about.
This forum is a new experience for me as it is the first and only one that I have ever joined. Never too old to learn they say!

Hi, My name is Wendi, I'm 51, I have type 2 , diagnosed 2006. I used to work at a retirement home but found the work too physically demanding. I live in Borehamwood in Hertfordshire where I was born. I am the youngest of 6 with 5 elder brothers, I have 15 neices & nephews. I also have a very destructive 5 month old kitten called Pepsi. I am a practising Christian and attend an anglican church. I volunteer for two festivals a year, Spring Harvest, in Minehead, & Greenbelt at Cheltenham Racecourse. These are both Christian festivals where i work with children. My name is Grant.
I am 73 years old.
Up t a few years ago I was semi professional sportsman training five days per week.
I walk and cycle for exercise.
I was diagnosed as type two some 9 years ago and have managed my blood levels fairly easily with metformin.

However, recently I have been having more difficulty and occasionally get readings first thing in the morning of up to 10.9.

My average over a typical day is 8.5.

What are considered a dangerous levels? I know that I should be around 6. But cannot understand why two hours after a meal the my levels can go up to 10.9. One day last week my readings was 4.5 after fasting during the day for 6 hours.

Any information wil be welcome.

iam alan 37 male type 2 since 2010
iam originaly from south tyneside
but now live in cramlington north tyneside
my story
iam married with 1 son whos 3 and 1 son who is due into the world in march
i was very nearly 19 stone and diagnosed type 2 diabetic approx 2 years ago and i did nothing at all (bury my head and it will go away) i love food all the bad foods especially chocolate and kebabs
i work in a pizza/kebab shop as a delivery driver to a very generous boss who allows me too eat absolutly anything i wish at all,
the diabetic nurse firstly put me on 2x metphormin and then after 1 year increased it to 4x metphormin and 1x glicaside cos my hbc1 was 7.5 i was already on simvastatin too
and then in august 2012 on the news there was a thing about newcastle university experiment and how diet and exercise can reduce and in some cases rid people of diabetes so i thought i might give that a shot
every1 says yeah yeah wot ever i was very nearly 19 stone and i ate anything and everything, my wifes a total chocoholic and loves her kebabs etc too but shes very slim and can eat anything without gaining weight
so i started eating cereal in the morning and a salad for my tea and that was it all day
i also started walking a couple ov miles a day, i would walk maybe 1 mile and my calf muscles would lock up and i would have too sit down for 10 mins .
then i got a bike (always loved my bike when i was a kid) started riding couple ov miles and found a very steep hill and thought 1 day iam gonna ride all the way up this without stopping first attempt i stopped twice.
i progressed every day a little at a time until where iam now
iam now under 14 stone and i run 4 times a week
i do 120 sit up everyday
monday =5k run
tuesday=5k run
wednesday=10k run
friday 12.5 miles cycle
saturday anything from 8 - 10 miles run
thursday and sunday are my days of rest
iam currently running 10k in under 50mins
iam doing the sunderland 10k run in april and the great north run in september sponsored for steps charity
last time i was at the doctors they took the glicaside off me and my next reveiw is in december where iam hoping they will reduce my metphormin
my bloods are always 4.6 in the morning and never go above 5.8 all day and my last hb1 test thingy was 4.7
and i feel great
now my diet consists of protein shakes and loads of fish, meats and cereal
and i have achieved this in 4 month,
i still work in the kebab shop and iam still welcome to eat anything i wish but i look at mysellf in the mirror and i like wot i see so therefore i wouldnt chance going back to wot i was for no amount of ****** food
