Hi Everyone, I was first diagnosed with blood sugar in feburary 2017 when my sugar levels came 365 first time. I took medicine for one month and then it drastically came down as i was also maintaining my diet. After feburary to august 2017 evertime my blood sugar level remained 140 after meal and 100-120 before meal.

But one change is i have lost almost 10 kg of weight from feburary month. Is that normal ?
Second thing is my body mass normal. My current age is 50, I am female and weight is 51 kg and i am 5.2 Feet

Is My weight loss normal as i am not gaining it ?
Is my body mass normal ?

I will be very thankful for you help.

Hi @heemanshu :)

Your body mass index is 20.5 which is normal :)

You say you've lost weight - have you changed your diet at all?

Hi @azure Yes a lot i am not not taking any sugary products and various other things that are bad for diabetics. I am taking two fruits daily and have made my diet as it should be for diabetics by getting some info from forum

Your weight loss may be due to your reduction in sugar and carbohydrates (if you are eating low carb). These are foods that put weight on us, so cutting them out has the opposite effect for many of us. I lost over one third of my body weight on a low carb/no sugar eating plan.

You could try keeping a food diary and add in some extra protein and fats, such as eggs, cheese, olive oil, butter, oily fish. See if that helps stop the loss.

If you've made big changes to your diet that might well be the reason for your weight loss.

If you're concerned, it might be worth speaking to a doctor so that you can get reassurance. You could write down your food intake for a few days, and your blood sugars and see what they say.

If you think you've lost a lot more weight than you should have lost, then you could ask your doctor to rule out Type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is associated with unexpected weight loss.

You could also have a general check up to make sure there isn't another problem affecting your weight, eg a thyroid problem or a digestion problem, etc

How can i know without going to doctor whether it is type 1 or type 2 as i was not having it upto age 45 it is diagnosed few months ago and my doctor didn't asked me to take insulin so i thought its not type1 diabeties and my from many months without insulin and medicines its normal in reports

i have also done my thyroid report now its normal. I am not having thyroid problem as per report.

Yes i suffered from loose motions and Stomach problem 2 times in last couple of months and i noticed my weight decreased in those months only. but now i am fine and want to increase my weight Can i increase it a little bit like 2-3 kgs

Only a doctor or specialist could tell you if you have Type 1, and even then sometimes there's doubt.

Do you use an app like MyFitnessPal? They are very useful for recording your food intake - calories, carbs, etc. That way you could look and make sure you're eating enough. You could also identify areas where you could add more foods without affecting your blood sugar.
