I don't think it is recommend for diabetics, due to potential issues with the kidneys.

Creatine isn't recommended for people with kidney or liver disease, or diabetes. Others who should avoid taking it are children under age 18 and women who are pregnant or nursing. Also don't use creatine if you are taking any medication or supplement that could affect your blood sugar, because creatine may also affect blood sugar levels.
If you do take creatine, drink enough water to prevent dehydration."

I am having this issue with my doctor too. I am not using supplement but I eat animal protein and dairy products with my low carb diet. These food items are rich in creatine, and the excess that my body does not use makes creatinine, which is excreted in the urine. Doctors regard creatinine in the blood as a sign of poor kidney function, and it is also classed as being a marker of inflammatory disease especially by vegetarian nutritionists. it is actually the natural biproduct of an omnivore or carnivore diet and is how we are designed to function.

Have you told your doctor you are taking creatine? It can cause results suggestive of kidney disease, yes. But there is also literature on creatine worsening existing kidney disease.
Might be worth abstaining for a while until you get the all clear from your doctor.

Since creatine is known as an oxidation and that in itself is highly problematic for diabetics, the result is inflammation!

creatine is another ingredient that should be avoided!

The whole process of obtaining energy from ATP is oxidation. What is meant by oxidation in relation to inflammation is loose ions recombining into new compounds other than those necessary for life in other words loose ions are like cannonballs, Creatinine is a compound that is expected, designed for, and not harmful in reasonable doses. Coffee is more harmful and toxic (two deaths reported yesterday in our local news directly from eating coffee powder) . Without oxidation we would be inert and immobile and would not even decompose gracefully into dust. Oxygen is our friend.

I would get creatine from meat.

Many diabetics who get great results with meat based diets do not mention supplementing with creatine. I am not aware of natural levels of creatine in meat causing a problem. My personal kidney issues saw an eGFR of 80 in January, the highest I have had in 6 years....with heavy meat protein focused eating and no additional creatine.

Hi,

I'm type 1 and do take creatine monohydrate at a maintenance dose of 5g/day. I took creatine before diagnosis to support training and for the various well-studied benefits (https://examine.com/supplements/creatine/). However, the research on creatine use in T1Ds specifically appears to be quite weak and advice is mixed so yeah first piece of advice is to talk to your endo. That been said here's my two cents:

I don't eat meat so it's likely that my unsuplemented circulating creatine levels would be below 'normal'. In this sense my maintenance dose may be acting as a top-up to normal rather than a supplement above normal.

Some research has shown that creatine can improve glucose metabolism and reduce insulin needs. This is something I've certainly experienced - every now and again I end up having a break and my insulin needs increase around 35% until I restart.

I don't have any liver or kidney problems and would definitely recondsider taking creatine if any of these started showing up.

Hope that's helpful.

Yes one person mistakenly added it to a prework out drink after using a scale that started at 2 grams and adding the equivalent of 400 cups of coffee,
