Is it the norm?

Hi Everyone

Hope all is well. I had my 4 day review today and sadly whilst my food diary has been great my readings haven’t lowest reading recorded was 15.5 and highest was 28 so my doc has told me to take a second Gliz tablet. I’ve come to bed to catch up on here and chill and I feel really warm not like a temperature but a bit like a menopausal flush... Could it be the meds?

I've no idea. I regularly get a hotflush for a minute or 2 several evenings a week. I can't link it to diabetes. I check my bg and that is neither high nor low at the time.
I am female and post menopausal and not on any meds.
Could be your age, an infection, flu, reaction to a jab...any thing really

As regards your bg, what have you been eating?

Feeling warm or sweating is a symptom of diabetes. But it could be linked to a lot of conditions. It is a natural reaction to high blood glucose levels.

Keep safe.

Hi. Those readings are far too high. Are you diagnosed as T2 or T1? If T2 I would ask the GP for the two tests for T1 i.e. GAD and C-Peptide. The extra Glic should help; I was on max dose 320mg before insulin. If you are actually T1 then being on Glic for too long, as I was, can make your beta cells worse and better to go onto insulin early. Are you slim or have excess weight? BTW if you feel unwell do call 111 as continued high BS levels risk DKA.

Hi

I’m type 2 just increased Gliz so take 1 in a morning and 1 with my evening meal. I am extremely overweight too. My readings have come down to 15-17 but aware that is still too high so I’m expecting my meds to be changed next week.
Huge blunder tonight too as had chicken breast, peppers & mushrooms in a Maggie bag... just got a reading of 25.7 I’m gutted it said 1.8g sugar and 8 g carbs for half of it prepared so now I’m panicking as that’s huge!!

Those levels sound very high for what doesn't really sound like a huge amount of carbs though. How are you feeling? I second @Daibell that those levels for a long time are not good and any concern should be calling 111, it's what they are there for, when is you follow up?

Is that all you ate?

Hi Andydragon

Next Tuesday

I’m just puzzled as apart from the maggi bag mistake I’ve cut everything out and been really good. This extra tablet seems to have just bought my readings down to 17.8 1st thing, before lunch 16.1 before tea 15.6.

You are the whole bag and that's 16g carb?
That's not extremely low carb perhaps but given low carb <130g a day it really doesn't seem something that should spike to that level

Can't offer medical advice of course but asking for advice from the professionals can't hurt can it?

If you are eating low carb and your levels are not reducing then you should tell the GP as a plain ordinary type two should see lower results in a few days. With gliclazide, which hammers insulin out of the pancreas hypos are possible when eating very low carb - as long as there is insulin to be released.

Hi
I’m only consuming 40-60g of carbs a day. No bread of any kind, no pasta, no rice only had a 1/4 of a potato and 1/4 of a parsnip on my Sunday lunch. I’ve been living off peppers, apples, carrots, fish & chicken but have left a message for the doctor to call me.

Good luck and hope some answers can be found
I think the doctor might put me on meta form in as he mentioned that when I was first diagnosed but I was the one that wanted to improve through diet but I’m literally only consuming 40-60g of carbs each day so those readings shouldn’t be that high. I have really taken this diagnosis seriously and as my final chance to get healthy.. So far I’ve had more information from this site than from my doctor so I’m going to be a little bit more demanding when the doctor calls me back.

Apples are higher carb, potatoes and parsnips, carrots aren't the lowest of veg carb wise and might not be ideal for very low carb either. However, you are counting and your levels And corresponding blood levels do seem worth checking further

That said, people can have different reactions. I get worse, as in longer lasting, blood spikes on potatoes than I do for choccy for example
