Anyone else suffer from extreme excessive overheating? I was wondering if it is linked to diabetes, I feel like I am burning up. I did eat chocolates yesterday (well it was mother's day) lol but seriously I have never experienced such extreme heat and it woke me up from my sleep, (feeling really lousy and exhausted) It's been like it all day and I just want to crawl in a fridge and get some sleep, any suggestions on what to do?

If you are female (which your profile says you are) and depending on your age, my first guess would be perimenopause or menopause. Have you had your hormone levels tested lately?

It could be as Indy says it was one of the many things l had wrong that made me think MP however bloods that dracular sucked out of me said no signs of MP yet. It was all wo derful T2. I can say since getting my bg under tight co trol l am back to being cold blooded and feeling freezing.
At times l think sorting the bg was a bad move!

Yes there can be a sweating and over heating link, I have read about it , sorry I can't post link....not enough computer skills...
Yes I suffer , have many years with over heating, then can be freezing cold it varies...
Cause can't be confirmed though and I am past all the hormone possibilities....
There are of course many cusses, I am saying that I suffer with the symptoms neither I or my gp can find any direct cause to confirm the problem or find a cure, it is an awful thing ....

Yep overheat all the time, Johnny reckons my thermostat is on the fritz! I am years and years past menopause though. I would be interested to know if the big D is responsible. Seems harsh to have to go through this again having done it once with meno!!

I have overheated at night for at least 4 years.

GP was told by my consultant to check my thyroid and hormones. They know I always check my bloods during the nights, so they know it isnt hypo's. My bloods came back normal for those tests but because my b12 shot through roof and my mean platelet is so high as well I am now having other tests.

I sleep with no duvet, windows open in winter, do not sweat during day. My bed is soaked within 20 mins of lying down. If I go to loo during night the minute I get stood upright then the sweats go, same when I get up. Its horrible.

It is a relief to see evidence of other sufferers of this under-rated condition. I have been diabetic for almost twenty-four years, having been diagnosed when twenty-four, and am on Apidra and Lantus insulins, plus atorvastatin, ramipril, metformin and sertraline.

For the first ten years, I had "normal" body temperature control. Aged thirty-four, this became abnormal and since then I have been in a state of overheating and excessive sweating from the time I wash in the morning (whatever the water's temperature) until bedtime. However at night, I am so cold that I end up being dressed like Scott of the Antarctic. The non-stop sweating is akin to being wrapped in a thick, liquid blanket and does cause much discomfort in social situations.

I have had endless thyroid and urine checks, which are always normal, my Hba1c is always good, cholesterol levels likewise, but the blood pressure is erratic and weight control is a continuous frustration. Some consultants say tough luck, others have said the overheating can been controlled, Still more blame this, that or the other medication. Since one never sees a consultant a second time, one does not get a consistent approach to it. Perhaps it's because they don't actually know, but they cannot admit such a thing. Imagine such a thing from that culture!

As a contrast, my wife, an non-diabetic, is chilly by day and hot by night. It does make for careful night-time arrangements and amuses our children.

Does anyone else have stories of their consultants' (note the plural) views on this particular problem? Or of any treatments/remedies that have actually worked?

Thanks.

I always feel hot, have done since before the acute onset of diabetes, but of course that could have beeen a slowely degrading pancreas as well.

Given the choice I'd sit in winter with the windows open, maybe put a jumper on if it gets cold. I wear shorts from April to November and at the moment I am sleeping under a sheet and still sweating buckets.

Even in the cooler weather today with the rain, I've still felt the need to change my t-shirt at lunchtime.

My mum is having these investigated at the moment. She had 8 different vials of blood taken on Wednesday. She is very anaemic as well reading of 98 when it should be 130 so is also being referred for colonoscopy in case there's bleeding internally. She gets that painful aching leg thing as well which has never been diagnosed or treated, legs swell up etc, she had to change surgery to get this far.

She's not diabetic yet but is trying to loose weight.

I'm normally warm and have about 4 sweats a day but my hands go cold I've always had cold hands I don't think I'm menopausal yet.

If I say it's cold then it's usually zero outside.

That's interesting, can it happen on it's own, or wopuld you also expect to see other forms of neuropathy? I only ask becasue i have none.
